From PAULA BOLYARD's wonderful article on pjmedia.com:Compare and Contrast: Leno Interviewing Obama and Cruz
Does Jay have a double standard? On Friday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz made his first appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Leno, allegedly in his last season as host of the Tonight Show, has not been known as a particularly partisan entertainer,
so it was surprising to see him go "Candy Crowley" on Ted Cruz...-- snip --
...Some on Twitter compared Leno to a prosecuting attorney as he interrupted Cruz and accused him
of everything from shutting down the government to wanting violent psychopaths to have guns.Cruz, for his part, used the appearance to his advantage, clearly understanding both the venue and the audience. It seemed to go over well with the audience, which erupted into cheers after several of Cruzs points...
Although Cruz is certainly more than capable of holding his own in a debate with Leno,
he chose mostly to keep his powder dry, defying the media-generated image of him as a hostile aggressor.
He was relaxed and laid back, despite the tough questioning.THIS THREAD will help to review, analyze and document that historic event. :)
Please feel free to add YOUR positive comments and suggestions.
And who knows, the folks at TEAM CRUZ might actually READ what you post here. ;)
Personally I wish that Ted Cruz would have been more combative and would have shot down the numerous errors & fallacies that Jay Leno repeated ad nauseum. Such as accusing Cruz of “shutting down the government” and Cruz should have fired right back immediately that it was Reid & 0bama that shut down the gubmint, not Cruz or the Republicans. Throughout the interview, Leno launched attack after attack and for the most part, Cruz just took it. As much as I hate the democrats, there is not a single democrat that would not have fired back and challenged every single statement that put the democrats or 0dumb0shit in a bad light. Also as much as I hate 0bama, I wish that we would get Republican challenger who would not be so scared & timid to go on savage offensive against 0dumb0. We are so screwed.... our Repubs are more interested in being cowardly & condescending rather than boldly going on the offensive.
Absolutely true! Cruz let numerous opportunities like this get away instead of boldly setting the record straight. He could have also mentioned that segregation also used to the law of the land.
Cruz was way too meek & mild & letting Leno get away with interrupting him time & time again! Cruz should have challenged him on that as well, and should have outright told Leno to stop interrupting and let him answer the question. A demoCRAP would have been firing back on all 8 cylinders. Actually I think the only Republican that consistently challenges & sets the record straight with liberal-ass reporters is Newt Gingrich.
We are screwed once again in 2014 as well as 2016, unless we can get a Republicans who are rock solid conservatives & patriots, and able to walk & chew gum at the same time.
The applause for Cruz sounded great! Thanks!Ill be honest I wasnt expecting it.
Apparently the "Choom Gang" didn't expect us, either! ;)
(Our chief weapon is SURPRISE...)
Personally I wish that Ted Cruz would have been more combative andI disagree with your FIRST proposition, and agree (in part) with your SECOND.would have shot down the numerous errors & fallacies that Jay Leno repeated ad nauseum...
The Left is trying to paint Senator Cruz as a wild-eyed loon, so he cannot appear TOO combative......but he does need to prepare more effective short answers to the Left's standard talking points...
...like he did when he hit Jay's question about the Bush/Obama gun law enforcement out of the park!
...but he does need to prepare more effective short answers to the Left's standard talking points...From the FULL TRANSCRIPT now posted on The Lonely Conservative:...like he did when he hit Jay's question about the Bush/Obama gun law enforcement out of the park!
Jay: Let me ask about gun control.Boom, and BOOM!Why is increased or better background checks not a good thing?
You voted against this. Why is that why is keeping the mentally unstable, those type of people
not saying you cant have guns, you just have to pass a background check. Why is that bad?
Cruz: Look, I support background checks.
In fact, when we had the battle over gun control, I was very proud to work with Senator Chuck Grassley
on the law enforcement alternative. There are two different philosophies.Do you target violent criminals, or do you try to
take away the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens?Jay: Well, no, you always target violent criminals, obviously, but the fact that
a complete psychopath can go to a gun show and buy half a dozen guns and now,
hasnt your new bill made it easier to go across state lines with guns?Cruz: You know, you say you always target violent criminals.
But in 2010, over 48,000 felons and fugitives tried to illegally buy guns. The Obama Justice Department prosecuted only 44 of them.
44 out of 48,000. I think thats completely unacceptable.Jay: How many did the Bush Administration do?
Is that just just law enforcement, or that.
Cruz: Under President Bush, prosecution of gun crimes was 30% higher than it is under President Obama.
Theyre not targeting bad guys.
And so the law enforcement alternative we introduced was to create a task force I think those 48,000
if youre a felon, youre a fugitive, youre trying to illegally buy a gun,
I think we ought to come down on you like a ton of bricks.
:)
I think Cruz is laying the groundwork for a 2016 Presidential run.
I think Cruz is laying the groundwork for a 2016 Presidential run. That **does** appear to be the plan. ;)
Jay's "talking points" DID draw blood a few times...This is one of the areas that Jay sandbagged him rather effectively, I'm afraid....when he may powerful accusations, and then didn't give Senator Cruz a chance to respond...
...about the uninsured in Texas, the "government shutdown" -- and Social Security's slow start.
Ted needs to be able to whack THOSE targets as effectively as he did Jay's "gun control" attempted sandbag.
While I'm sure that Senator Cruz could have NAILED him on all counts......He did not, primarily because Jay cut him off.
THIS is an area where he REALLY needs a short, powerful FAST answer ready, I think. From the FULL TRANSCRIPT now posted on The Lonely Conservative:
Cruz: And the reason we had a government shutdown is President Obama the Democrats said,Ouch, and OUCH!
"we will not negotiate, and we will not compromise."You know, its striking now...
Jay: But heres my thing.
You dont negotiate or compromise because A) John Roberts Republican, pretty much said this is the law.Obamacare is the law of the land.
Lets move on.Isnt that true?
Cruz: The Supreme Court upheld the constitutional challenge.
But it isnt working.
3.5 million people across this country have gotten cancelation notices.Jay: I know, but social security took seven years before anybody got the first check.
Roosevelt said, were gonna put social security it was seven years before anybody got anything.-- snip --
Cruz: Big business does great with big government.
The people who get hammered are the small businesses.
When I traveled in Texas, I hear from people all over the place.
Who are just number one, theyre scared theyre losing their health care.I cant tell you how many people across Texas say, "Im losing my health care. Im trying to take care of my kids.
Theyve got weve got real challenges."Jay: But doesnt the state of Texas they dont want Obamacare there.
Cruz: We dont want Obamacare because its taking away their health care. What we want...
Jay: 25% of the state doesnt have health care anyway.
Obamacare would help them, wouldnt it?
Ted wasn't able to effectively counter EITHER of these lame talking points at the time......and we KNOW that he COULD HAVE, right?
The fact that the Heritage Foundation came out and said, per their legal analysis, he is legal to run for President was the strongest indicator to me.
You don’t bother verifying eligibility if you aren’t considering running.
...they were hoping for a "Charlie Gibson/Katie Couric"-style AMBUSH!From truebluenz.com:Fortunately, they had THREE PROBLEMS with that plan:
- Senator Cruz was PREPARED for them, for the most part.
- This show was recorded "live-to-tape," so they could not EDIT his answers.
- WE WERE THERE, to help influence the "crowd dynamics." :)
Katie Couric and the Lefts Hate Offensive Against Sarah PalinNote to Cruz staff:-- snip --...she asked Mrs. Palin a series of 'gotcha' questions over a period of several days and then
cut and sliced that six hours of footage back to a 20 minute interview
designed to make Sarah look as bad as possible.-- snip -
...Mrs Palin writes how Couric continually badgered her and then
edited out her substantive remarks
in favour of a few weak responses to some gotcha questions...
Avoid TAPED interviews, in favor of LIVE ones that cannot be edited (as easily).

Awesome.
It seems like he is reading up on RR and articulating those values, as well Thatcher.
Those chicks are babes...
It seems like he is reading up on RR and articulating those values, as well Thatcher.Funny that you should ention THOSE TWO people. ;)
Last week, just before this FReep, I got my 2014 Calendar from Hillsdale College:
Inside, as you might imagine, each month features an elegant photograph, mostly of scenes from around the college......but ONLY THREE public figures grace the pages of next year's calendar from America's Home of Liberty in Academia......Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher -- and TED CRUZ! THEIR actual image is much nicer than THIS one, also from his Commencement Address there...
...and at the "after party," Senator Cruz signed MY COPY of that calendar photograph. :)
