What I saw at the doomsday prepper convention
CNN Money ^ | 11/11/13 | David Z. Morris

More and more Americans are spending money to get ready for an uncertain future -- gathering food, water, tools, and skills to help them weather anything from a hurricane to a pandemic. Contrary to images of deluded or gun-obsessed "lone wolves," many preppers are average consumers reacting to concrete worries, and their way of thinking is spreading, fueling an emerging lifestyle trend. That lifestyle is generating demand for a broad spectrum of products offering survival -- or even comfort -- when large-scale systems go down.

I call those boot lick Freepers, mostly cops or ex-cops who think they are better than the rest of us and that cops can do NO wrong

My biggest problem is LEO's do not know the laws they are suppose to enforce.

I like to add this:

"But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood." Ezekiel 33:6

And though I feel its a duty there have been many times its been a real pain, what with the name calling, bs to a point of having to bring Jim Rob in even to the threats which though many were in anger and bluster more than a couple were serious.

Indeed, it is scriptural that a prophet is not accepted in his own home town, it is also scriptural that we are obliged to sound the warning.

Okay, I am in and I owe everybody a shot according to Ol Sarge.

There are a couple of reasons that I gathered. First, every prep that you have or make is a vote of no-confidence in their god, the government.

Second, they seem to have a sort of “eschatology” about crashing the economy, though they won’t admit that is what is happening. It seems that everyone “being in the same boat” is a higher virtue for them, and prepping keeps you from being in that boat with them, and it infuriates them.

Excellent points. Darkness hates the light. They congregate in the dark using lies as their shield. Anyone who so much as keeps a flashlight on hand is a problem to these folks. They do not want any light (truth) to ruin the atmosphere. After all, they put sooo much effort into crafting their Delusionville.

My biggest problem is LEO's do not know the laws they are suppose to enforce.

They're only trained to be revenue collectors ,and to only investigate (you to go around to the pawn shops and find your own items)(then call them) and arrest (harass) after the fact of a crime. Doesn't matter if you're guilty or not.

Almost forgot ,kill the family pet for no reason.

Nowhere in Genesis 6 does it tell us that Noah evangelized to the wicked. He followed God’s command and prepped, and saved his family and the beasts of the earth.

If it was good enough for Noah...

“Third, there are some people on these threads who actively want a collapse and civil war.”

Collapse: Any person who has lived in the aftermath of a hurricane with no power for days, does not want that to happen to this country. Sure, I have preps, but I have also lived through a number of days without power with those preps, and I’d rather not do that on a continual basis. I knew that eventually, utility services would come back and grocery stores, drug stores, and the hospital and doctor’s offices would be open. To think they would NOT come back is terrible to think about.

Add war into that mix, and anyone would be totally crazy to want that. Any prepper who wants those things to happen, has a huge mental problem.

She told me there was plenty of gas because she had seen rich people buying the poor peoples gas before the storm, so there was plenty of rich peoples gas left.

Okay, now THAT is funny!

...prepping has a bibical bases.

Maybe even something about saving-up during seven years of plenty in anticipation of seven years of famine?

You are another one who doesn’t require verified accounting of the facts in my opinion when it comes to your posts. Yes, you could write something in error but it will be just that, an error not an attempt to deceive.

I think I’ve said before that I just have a lifestyle, and don’t really think of myself as a prepper, at least not until I started reading this thread.

I just live in reality. Stuff happens. In Missouri, we have lots of electrical outages, tornado damage, and one of the most active fault zones in the USA. We also have had one of the biggest earthquakes ever.

I would have to be an ostrich, if I didn’t prepare for an inevitable disruption of modern conveniences.

I additon, I lived through the last oil price shock and bad economy of the Nixon/Carter years. Gas lines, and empty super market shelves due to price controls.

As soon as the oil spiked up, I knew groceries would follow. I immediately hit the savings account and bought up as much of our favorite and regularly used foods as well as staples that last a long time.

Then I started my own garden, in addition to what hubby was already doing. I have not had to increase my grocery budget, because of these actions, and have been able to replace most things when they are on sale.

This thread, and Marcella have really helped me to continue with additional things. Most recently I got a bunch of batteries that Marcella described, and so it goes. I don’t spend a bunch of money on stuff that won’t be used. Even if there is not big emergency, it’s all useful and will be used.

Just to repeat. It is a lifestyle. I’ll add that it is the way I grew up, and the way my parents and especially my grandparents lived.
