AT the recent New York Times forum in Singapore, Eleonora Sharef, a co-founder of HireArt, was explaining what new skills employers were seeking from job applicants, but she really got the audiences attention when she mentioned that her search firm was recently told by one employer that it wouldnt look at any applicant for a marketing job who didnt have at least 2,000 Twitter followers and the more the better. She didnt disclose the name of the firm, but she told me that it wasnt Twitter.
At a meeting with students at Fudan University in Shanghai a few days earlier, I was struck by how anxious some of the Chinese students were about the question: Am I going to have a job? If youre a software engineer in China, youll do fine, also a factory worker but a plain-old college grad? The Times reported earlier this year that in China today among people in their early 20s, those with a college degree were four times as likely to be unemployed as those with only an elementary school education.
Stories like these explain why I really hope that Obamacare succeeds. Say what?
Heres the logic: The Cold War era I grew up in was a world of insulated walls, both geopolitical and economic, so the pace of change was slower you could work for the same company for 30 years and because bosses had fewer alternatives, unions had greater leverage....

Tom Friedman is a charter member of “Leftist Millionaires Who Can Afford Their Own Personal Physicians for Obama”.
What’s his premium?
I wish Cruz would have asked Leno what his premiums were or if he had any worries about losing healthcare.
Also those with money, all those well-meaning libs, don’t have to worry about their quality of care.
No one can turn you down for cancer treatment or heart surgery if you can pay cash.
Mr. Friedman ia an admirer of the Chicom government.
Also those with money, all those well-meaning libs, dont have to worry about their quality of care.
Surprisingly, we never see a “why I signed up for obamacare” story from these goose stepping rich leftists. Those fascists will never be moving their families into an 800 square foot apartment or taking the bus to work.
He seems to think us little people becoming service entrepreneurs, working several part-time jobs for 60 hours a week, is the best we can look forward to. IOW doing anything we can to survive the next 20-30 years, liking it, and being grateful for the “opportunity.” Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?
After many paragraphs of stuff unrelated to heath care, Friedman concludes the article with this non sequitur:
“Having a national health care safety net under the vast majority of Americans to ease and enable people to make this transition is both morally right and in the interest of everyone who wants a stable society.”
Huh?
Job requirement to work at the NYT.
Typical limousine lefty.
he’s going to have to share the space under Obama desk with the gang from NBC..
Jobs will move away from the US and to third world countries because of Obamacare. And with everyone on the dole, the whole thing will collapse like the Soviet Union in the 80s.
Is that really HIS house?!
“He still supports Obamacare because “
O’Scare sounds humane and would help people
but that is the O’scare vaporware
LOTS of people like the concept, helping the uninsured . . .
very few like the implementation
well just da** the concept ==> the implementation
BUT this is a good talking point for those of the persuasion that were / are “for Obamacare” . . .
the idea, the concept is one thing, the actual implementation quite another thing altogether.
SO, to the deluded we must say, the O’Care you liked has nothing to do with the O’Care as implemented; as consciously implemented.
Keep your higher view of yourself as compassionate. JUST KNOW, KNOW, the proof is overwhelming, that the Obamacare you liked and maybe still like, is not extant. The Obamacare you wanted does not exist. Instead a horrible monstrosity exists.
SO it is OK to say, you liked the CONCEPT of uninsured getting healthcare. It is OK to say Obamacare is not what you envisioned or wanted.
Let them keep their dreams of the perfect health care system, but convince them that O’care is not it, could not be it, will NEVER be it.
Repeal O’care! Surely some of the previously deluded have to now agree.
I am old school. If someone is following me, I lose em.
Friedman’s wife is a billionaire heiress.
No one he personally knows will be affected by Obamacare.
After I got shingles, I said, that I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Upon reflection, I'll make an exception for obama.
Frankly, sir, Friedman should be arrested for performing mental masturbation...in front of the children for Pete's sake.
So I am given to understand.
