Testifying on Capitol Hill Wednesday about the failure of the Obamacare rollout, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was grilled about President Obama's false promise that millions of Americans could keep their insurance plans. Sebelius and Obama repeatedly stated plans held prior to Obamacare passing and going into effect would be grandfathered in. What they didn't mention is the "grandfathering" process comes with caveats, meaning if plans didn't meet new Obamacare standards, they would be cancelled. Because of those caveats, millions of Americans in the individual health insurance market have lost their health insurance plans despite being promised they could keep them. Today, Sebelius admitted employer based insurance plans will also be cancelled as a result of grandfathering caveats and government requirements making plans illegal under Obamacare.
"Employer based grandfathered plans will have the same caveats," Sebelius said under questioning from Republican Senator John Thune.
The repeated promise to keep health insurance plans came without a single caveat. "If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what, is what President Obama said.
Earlier this week, the caveat was added.
If you had or have one of these plans before the Affordable Care Act came into law, Obama said to OFA volunteers and supporters in Washington D.C. And you really like that plan, what we said was, you could keep it if it hasnt changed since the laws passed.
So what kind of numbers are we looking at here when it comes to losing health insurance? 93 million people will lose their plans either in the individual market or through their employer. That's quite the caveat.
When the employer mandate delay runs out... Right after the election...
There will be LARGE SCALE cancellations of employer sponsored health care plans effective with January 2015. I certainly hope that the impacted employers will let their employees know BEFORE the national election in November 2014—and make it clear that Obamacare is the reason for the cancellations.

I thought the delay ran out in Jan. 2014? Even if it is after the election, won’t the letters go out before the election since people need notice?
If that’s true, I don’t know the schedule, the Open Enrollment begins right before the election.
Pretty sure the employer plans are already subject to the Obamacare mandates in terms of what they cover. We just got our rate increases.
The delayed mandate to January 2015 is the one that says businesses over 50 workers must provide coverage to their employees or pay a penalty. So the delay of that may be pushing up our insurance prices, due to less people buying in this year, and/or lowering revenue to the government in the form of uncollected penalties. But the delay may be helping businesses otherwise keep their salaries higher, profits higher and prices lower.
I wonder how many of the 93 million will be affected in such a way that they’ll feel they have nothing to lose?
Many British soldiers were killed for a lot, lot less.
One can only hope this results in millions of people taking their country back. This marxist madness has to end.
yeah but it took about at least 25-30 years before that finally spilled over into action. they tried and exhausted all other avenues for decades before finally dealing with the problem.
So it’s a sliding scale... how bad is it and how long has it been bad...?
Well, we know how bad it is and how bad it’s going to be. Heck we even knew that this crappy bill would increase health care costs and would cancel millions of policies.
So how long has it been “bad”? 20 years?
We’re not far off.
I don’t know myself.
All i know is Obama’s proof why we don’t allow foreigners to be president. He’s exactly what they warned about, even though they weren’t thinking of an african marxist being president.
The millepede known as 0bamaCare will be dropping shoes like this for years.
If this happens, the Rat party is finished.
I think they have to due to open enrollment rules. Usually in October, IIRC.
“Pretty sure the employer plans are already subject to the Obamacare mandates in terms of what they cover. We just got our rate increases.”
That is what I was thinking and if so, we are in the thick of it already and may run it’s course well before the election.
Which Republican Senator asked her the question: and who the hell are you to decide the type of plan each American should have?
How are the plans “grandfathered” if they must meet the same requirements as newly introduced plans?? That’s what grandfathering MEANS, waiving of new requirements for activities that pre-dated a law. In fact, in a lot of areas, it’s more or less automatic. Let’s say NHTSA decides that headlights must be visible from the side of vehicles. This doesn’t criminalize all the existing cars on the road that don’t comply. But beyond that, I can’t understand what the administration means about plans being “grandfathered” if they don’t get a waiver from new rules. The word has no meaning otherwise.
Employers, big ones, are already telling people that didn’t pick the high end plans (which are in compliance with 0care) would automatically be put into the high end plans.
Fortunately some people had already picked the high end plans so there will be no effect on them.
It's sign up time for someone I know. They have HSA's in the menu, 2 of them. As I understand it, don't they go away in 15'? If so, why are they being offered? Call Benefits and ask if their plans are compliant going forward? My guess is they won't touch that one ( Legal won't let um ) with a ten foot pole. So what do you pick for a plan if it you don't know if it will go away?
Ping for later
