Robert Laszewski, an industry consultant, said he thinks the rise in rates was inevitable. The new law, he said, has resulted in an estimated 30 to 50 percent increase in baseline costs for insurers.

David Prestin, 48, who operates a gas station and diner at a truck stop in Michigans Upper Peninsula, was unhappy to learn recently that his premiums are slated to rise from $923 to $1,283 next year under Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. The insurer said it needed to add maternity care to comply with the Affordable Care Act.
The issue of maternity coverage is a sensitive one for Prestin and his wife, Kathie. They had one child seven years ago, but after she had five miscarriages, they discovered she had an immune issue that prevented her from successfully completing a pregnancy.
At the same time, Prestin said, the new plan would reduce coverage for things he and Kathie need, such as free annual checkups.
The Prestins explored HealthCare.gov. They are not eligible for subsidies, but they found a cheaper plan than the one being offered by their insurer. However, there was another problem: It would have required the couple to switch from the doctors they have seen for more than 16 years and travel more than 100 miles from their home to the nearest major hospital center for treatment in Green Bay, Wis.
I pay my taxes. Im assistant chief of the volunteer fire department here in Cedar River and a first responder for Mid-County Rescue, Prestin said. You try to be personally accountable and play by the rules, but the more you play by the rules, the more you get beat up on.

With no free check ups and high deductibles it makes the covered act like the non covered and they have to pay for the privilege.
And I’ll bet he votes democrat and was all in favor of Obamacare.
Sure, but how much of that anger translate into direction action at the polling booth? We’ll see next year... the length of the typical American voter’s attention span is as long as that of a gnat. We’re not talking about the brightest of species here.
And, unfortunately, the “media” have a year to inculcate the narrative the Repubs were somehow to blame for all those millions of lost health plans.
*how much of that anger WILL translate into DIRECT action...
(wishing FR had an edit feature)
WaPo can’t sweep this under the rug either, eh?
Doubt it. How the heck would you know anyway? Are you ASSuming such because he lives in Michigan?
My level of concern for the ‘angry’ is proportional to who they voted for.
You have to wonder about a majority of the populace that is apparently so stupid, uninformed, and/or apathetic, that after 70+ years of Demonic Party lies and broken promises, “free healthcare” is believed to be realistic. People are angry? No, people are so stupid that they should be charged for their oxygen... and with death panels being utilized to “keep costs down”, that’s exactly what is around the corner, unless they act on their anger and oust this ignorant dictator wannabe.
My next door neighbor’s adult daughter (in her early 40’s, free-spirit artsy-hippy type) is a big Obozo lover. She believed that her and her husband’s healthcare would be FREE. She complained to her mother that now they would have to actually GET JOBS to pay for their healthcare........
These people should ask themselves “Did I vote for Obama?” If the answer is yes, then they should just shut up.
Its heartbreaking to read all these stories.
There is something really creepy about the government deciding your personal healthcare insurance decisions.
Perhaps we are building to that American moment of consensus where we will collectively decide to fire this malicious president.
And enjoy a heaping dose of WE TOLD YOU SO
On a political level it's even worse for democrats. Obama gave the big prizes to his most dependable voters... Shall we say, "DETROIT IS HAPPY... VERY HAPPY..."
People who work in the middle class - many likely to be swing voter - were damaged. Not a little damaged, but life damaged. Older citizens getting Medicare Advantage - now being stripped down... damaged.
So, yeah more people were helped - 80% of Detroit - 98% of Chicago's south side... Most of South Central's LA in the rougher areas... illegals, prostitutes, homeless people, drunks, drug addicts... people who scam disability and some hard working people who don't make a lot of money - all winners...
The conservatives should be pouncing on this anger. Beat the Libs at their own Alinsky games. It’s unbelievably frustrating to see this happening and see NO ACTION on the part of Republicans in Congress, Ted Cruz being the exception. But I don’t consider him a Republican anyway. He’s a constitutionalist in my mind.
TAP IN TO THE ANGER, CONSERVATIVES, OR THE DEMS WILL BEAT YOU TO IT.
Ohhhh the huge manatee!!!!!
Had overlooked this thread and posted a dup. Thank-you for clearing that up.
I laugh at and somewhat enjoy the whining and squirming of anyone who voted for LIBs/DIMs/Commies. They need to choke on their Clown-Prince-nobama-Sh**-Sandwich. It is the only thing on the menu. Bwahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Wow, the donk trolls are out in force over there spewing all kinds of lies. What they just don’t get is that their spin in useless here. Millions of people are getting shafted by Obamacare, and they could not care less about the spin!
It’s the bamster rewarding his friends and punishing his enemies.
Kenya is probably very happy as well.
