Camp Zama commander relieved of duty

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The Army has relieved the commander of its largest base in Japan after an investigation into alleged misconduct, according to a U.S. Army Japan press statement sent late Friday.

The investigation had been ongoing since June 7, when Col. Eric Tilley was suspended from his job as commander of U.S. Army Garrison Japan.

Maj. Gen. James C. Boozer, Sr., commander of U.S. Army Japan and I Corps (Forward), officially relieved Tilley on Friday for “lack of confidence” based on the results of the inquiry, according to the press statement.

The statement provided no other details. Reached via email, U.S. Army Japan spokesman Maj. Kevin Toner said, "…it would be inappropriate to make public the allegations because the investigation did not lead to findings of criminal misconduct."

The Tilley inquiry was not related to Boozer’s predecessor, Maj. Gen. Michael T. Harrison, Toner said. Harrison was also suspended in June while officials looked into whether he may have failed to report or properly investigate a sexual assault claim.

Toner would not address rumors that other officials have been relieved of their duties from Camp Zama as a result of alleged misconduct, nor did he elaborate on what had happened to Tilley’s civilian deputy, Jeffrey Wertz, who was temporarily detailed to other duties in June during a misconduct investigation.

Col. Joy Curriera has been appointed to the position of garrison commander at Zama.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated Col. Joy Curriera's title as being U.S. Army Japan Commander.

“This isn’t part of the purge. This is the aftermath of a mistreated civilian employee. This has been percolating for a few months.”

I don’t think it is a purge, either. I was active duty for twenty years, then employed somewhere in DoD as a civilian for nearly another twenty years. I don’t know the specifics of Camp Zama. But I do know that if they start holding the top brass to the same standards that GIs have been held to for those 40 years, you’d see a lot of them in trouble.

That’s what seems to me to be going on now, mostly anyway. If a scandal can bring down someone like Petraeus, then no one in the higher ranks is untouchable. So now you have all sorts of folks coming out of the woodwork to tell what they know about their boss, and maybe get a few minutes of fame while they are at it. Even if that fame is their name blacked out in a redacted IG report.

Doubt there is an active purge. These days they are cracking down on stupid stuff. Maybe the colonel forgot to remove his ID card from his computer when he went to lunch or something.

Stalin did something very similar in the 1930’s with disastrous results. And to think that all this time I thought that Osama Obama was modeling his life after Mao's.

“You would see entire combat formations decamp to join the Americans — and taking their weapons and equipment with them.”

Which is why there are so many deaths and severe injuries that are cared for so slowly and poorly. In AfgPak. In Iraq or anywhere else we have seen warfare under 0bama.

If he can’t turn the military, he’ll make it pay.

Ask the former head of the NSA, or Chris Kyle, for example.

Or, SpecOps and the SEALs.

A protected class 2 star was suspended out there in June over allegations he was protecting a subordinate who sexually assaulted a civilian employee. That case has been a disaster. Evidently the case fell apart and then an attempt was made to reinstate the charge because the subordinate put in for a medical retirement.

it would be pretty easy in a situation like that for the base CO to be one of the casualties regardless of which side of the ball he was playing.

Where is Congress on this.

If they will not protect our military, they are to blame.

“Ew, Eww, we can’t win” is not an argument acceptable for any argument, based on any circumstance any time in history.

If this is a purge or the continuation of a purge by 0dumb0 against our military officers, then the purged officers need to grow a set of balls & go public with this. And a military coup by the purged officers to restore our Republic is way overdue!!! Either way, the commie pig muzlim 0dumb0 traior-in-chief needs to be removed from office.
