Editor, Times-Dispatch:
I am self-employed and I pay for my own health insurance. I assumed I would pay a surcharge for the Affordable Care Act every month. I assumed incorrectly that I would have the freedom to choose, that my future and security were in my hands. My insurance agent visited my office and asked me what provision of the ACA I wanted to sign up for. I thought he was kidding; he wasnt. I do not have a choice. My policy will go from $325 a month to more than $900 a month, my coverage will be nowhere near what I have today and I must change my family doctor, eye doctor and dentist. My deductible will be as high as $8,000.
This act is now a federal law and there are no private insurance policies available none at any cost. I actually felt sorry for my insurance agent as I could see his frustration and weariness at having to explain this to his clients over and over.
My impression was that this act was to assist those who could not assist themselves, to provide help to those in need. I was fundamentally supportive and in agreement with this concept.
I should have seen this coming simply by the fact the lawmakers exempted themselves, their families and their staff. If a car mechanic will not drive a car after he performs major repairs, then the car is probably not safe for me and my family.
Why $900 a month for an inferior product? The middle-class citizen will carry this burden, the rich can pay cash, the poor pay nothing, and the folks in the middle pay everything.

“...good and hard.”
Gary Johnson 2016.
The worst part is that this is only the insurance part of Obamacare. Wait until they get to the medical care part — if it will even be available.
Anyone who buys into the idea that government programs which redistribute wealth are good, and not destined for failure, in the long run, is not thinking.
You wanted this. Now suck on it.

The 0bots are commenting at the linked site that this guy is a fake. They’re coming up with all kinds of reasons why Mr Carrol is wrong. If I could post there (looks like FB postings), I’d tell them to get back to us in a year.
There won’t be any. This is not about taking care of people, the people Obama despises. It is about private information and control.
BTW, it is illegal, as it defies the federal laws of Health Information Portability and Accountability Act. Our privacy doesn’t matter. This law doesn’t matter. I haven’t seen nor heard any evidence that our health matters.
From the WAPO, 2 days ago:
About an hour and a half into this morning’s Energy and Commerce hearing, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tex.) showed off a slide of code he said was from the HealthCare.gov site, and which he believed was a violation of HIPAA heath privacy rules.
The following message, in its entirety and in its simplicity, needs to be sent to every person who is not being hurt by Obamacare:
“Actions have consequences. If you voted for a democrat in any federal office—house, senate or president, you got exactly what you voted for, so stop your complaining and enjoy what your vote has wrought. The first opportunity you will have to change this mess is in 2016. It will require a Republican house, senate and white house to undo this mess. Your first action needs to come in November 2014 followed by action in November 20.
If you are unwilling to undertake those actions and put Republicans who are willing to repeal this disaster ito federal office, then shut your fool mouth and stop complaining. You got exactly what you voted for.”
waaah waaah waaaaah. You got what you asked for, morons.
I don't understand why he is saying this. In my state, at least, there are many policies available directly from many insurers. They all have to be compliant, but there is a much greater range of policy provisions available compared to those on the state exchange, especially relating to provider networks.
CORRECTION: (man I wish these things could be edited)...”who is NOW being hurt...”
And that goes double for all the "conservatives" who either stayed home, or didn't vote against Obama.
Absolutely false and dim-witted. The national GOP does not care about ending Obamacare. They simply wants more power for themselves. They are inept, ineffective, and incredibly poor at the modern political game. They have no way of utilizing of mass media or social media. Voting for more “R’s” simply because they have an “R” simply brings us more of the decay we have gotten in the past decade.
The only reason this Obamacare exists is because it's a SCAM. It gives the fascists direct access to everything you own! They make the cost so high that almost nobody can afford it and then come the fines which undoubtedly they will raise and raise and raise every single year until you end up owing into the 5 digits then 6 then you can't keep up and that's when they make their move. Liens, the house, the car, the kids college fund all seized and *poof* we have redistribution of wealth, collectivism, communism 101 and guess who will be laughing?
It’s about killing freedom. It’s about wealth transfer from whitey to non-whitey. It’s about punishing success and hard work. It’s tyranny and dictatorship. That’s what it is.
Sucker!
To help pay for the inferior product for those who can't (or won't) pay.
ObamaCare: overpaying for the medical attention that won't be there when you need it the most.
