“Throughout my family’s more than 170-year legacy of public service, Republicans have represented the voice of fiscal conservatism. Republicans have been the adults in the room. Yet somehow the current generation of party activists has managed to do what no previous Republicans have been able to do — position the Democratic Party as the agents of fiscal responsibility.”

Just what part of fiscal conservatism does this inbred dependent of the “great” Taft family fail to recognize? Most of us know something about the offspring of the rich and famous as well a bloodlines among livestock that disappoint, and I have experienced some of it personally. It was clearly obvious with both the Ford and Mott Foundations in the seventies when I had to deal with both as grantee. Name another and recognize another ruined family name. Of course, like the great New York Times family, a clearly troubled one if ever there was one, they still circle the wagons,in a fashion. Today their wagons are Yachts that they can view along the Hudson River from their penthouses. I could write more, and call some names, but I’m bored with it. The whole celebrity game is nothing more than just a bunch of misfits trying, and failing, to make something of their useless lives.

One of the most hypocritical articles I have ever read. In one paragraph, he mentions his grandfather, who wouldn’t recognize today’s Republican party because of all the times they have run us right up to the fiscal cliff without giving the opposition any credit, and goes on to negatively compare Ted Cruz to Joseph McCarthy as an embarrassment to the GOP. Does this present day Taft hate the Republicans just as much as the Tea Party? The Taft family legacy now has about as much impact in Ohio as the Gore family legacy has in Tennessee.

Unfortunately, my home state of Ohio has had to suffer under this RINO’s relatives far too many times. Sorry to upset your fat-cat apple cart, John.

“...my cousin, Robert Taft, a two-term governor of Ohio.”

A RINO par excellence, by tax, regulation, and general girlie man weakness....Bob Taft in 8 years as governor finished the destruction of Ohio started by Gov, then Senator George Voinovich’s 8 years. Dropping like a rock from among the among the best states in the union for industry, tax, ag, intellect, etc.

It is now a walking cadaver. Thanks Tafts!

Like all Taft’s.....this one is a loser. Fat W.H. Taft split the party with Teddy Roosevelt’s Bull Moose Party gave us Woody Wilson in 1912. RA Taft, Sr. let FDR run all over liberty and lost bids for the WH 4 times. 4 TIMES!

There is so much more that I want to smash the keyboard....Tafts were the Bushes of their day....thank God this “dickless” line of apostates finally petered out to become gummy mouthed towel boys in the surrender section of the Sodomite bath house the NY Times has become.

I can’t even post a comment on the Times site because it is not allowed by my “betters”....ARRGH!!!!!

And John G. Taft belongs to ALL of their little clubs you can be sure— so THEY couldn’t be the problem now could they?

Not someone who’s a member of my club. My Progressive conservative club...LOL. What a joke this person is, so naturally the NYTimes in its doddering out of touch aging decline, publishes this covering screed for the Christies of the world.

To include McCarthy in an apologia at this point with all the confirmed FACTS about the Communists exposed— is quite simply laughable. Except the dude believes it. And Jeb Bush gave Hitlery Clintoon a Liberty medal— Honest. to. God.
New World national socialist order. Taft— for God’s sake.

Sorry, but this b(x)stard author is not worth any furhter expenditure of my retina cells or grey matter.

The Republicans have been swallowed by those who want power, and are unwilling to get out of their seat, unto death, to the death of the country.

"Yet somehow the current generation of party activists has managed to do what no previous Republicans have been able to do — position the Democratic Party as the agents of fiscal responsibility. "

When did spending money that will never exist become "fiscal responsibility"?

The United States is worse than broke. It needs 17,000 Billion dollars just to be broke.

Hereditary members of the Entitled Ruling Class like this asshat are part of the problem. They had better hope and pray we don't replay the French Revolution here.

Re-quoting: I am a genetic a@@hole, whose lineage were elevator operators for the Wilsonian nightmare, the FDR Raw Deal, and the ever expanding socialist one world anti-sovereign “government” by the government, not by the People (the ostensible last word represented in GO...People). My family sat by as the Rockefeller wing of the party trashed Ronald Reagan and did everything it could to prevent him becoming President. We helped the RINO Prescott Bush and family, starting with GHWBush, to dismantle everything Reagan put together in his landslide elected administrations, and set the stage for Bill Clinton and the non-person obamaumao to seal the lid on personal freedom and low taxation, low presence government. Yep, I am a genetic -——tool. As witness this idiotic article in the oh-so-proper idiotic self important Times. Elitists all, while our country is dying. Take no risks, Taft— your people NEVER did before-— one big overweight bunch of fat asses— like Christie.

Bob Taft was the best democrat the Republicans ever had in Ohio. Is that gun grabber in prison? William Howard Taft gave us the Income Tax.

If the Tafts still ran the GOP, my family would probably still be democrats.

I’m wondering if this fella is certain that his dear Uncle Senator Robert Alphonso Taft would dislike Ted Cruz and the TEA Party. It’s just wiki but from what I read there—the TEA would have been right up Senator Robert Alphonso Taft’s alley.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Taft

Both parties have gone to pot. I listen to Pat Cadell and there are others like him complaining about the Democratic party. Both parties have went wildly off track and far from our Constitution and God. We now mostly have selfish, devious corruptocrats in BOTH parties. It just appears that the establishment Republicans are bigger crybabies and so our divides gets the most attention.

Mr. John n G Taft, Republican— I AM American! Our country has gone off the rails and we are headed for destruction. My vote is still just as important as your proudly claimed Republican birthright vote and my opinion is just as important as yours, too. We are not yet cattle in this country, we are still (barely so) individuals. I think you are wildly confused, so would you kindly stuff it? Thank you.

Senate Majority Leader Taft, appointed Joseph McCarthy to his committee chair, not because he liked or agreed with him fully, but because not giving McCarthy the chair of something at that time would have been political suicide. McCarthy was already a lighting rod in the Senate. Most of America loved him, but most of the Senate hated him. Taft did the right thing with McCarthy, regardless of the outcome. Mitch McConnell on the other hand screwed, up the GOP by his lack of action when it was needed. Even since the end of the shutdown, the public and more and more of the media have started attacking obamacare and it's owners and have pretty much forgotten about the problems between the GOP and Ted Cruz. John Taft wants to recapture the headlines with this crap.

These people just don't get it. Or they do, and feel threatened by it.

All we want is for government to live within its mean, and for Republicans to stop collaborating with Democrats on almost everything. We're the opposition party with our own set of beliefs and principles. Why the Hell would we want to support the other team's goals?

This guy literally believes in “breeding”. I take from this that the problem with the R party is Some People don’t know their place and are trying to rise above their state.

Shopkeepers in the Senate? Sniff. Preposterous.
