A Wife Committed to Cruz’s Ideals, but a Study in Contrasts to Him (So it begins)
The New York Times ^ | October 23, 2013 | Ashley Parker

At first glance, Senator Ted Cruz’s wife, Heidi Nelson Cruz, seems to be just the sort of person the Tea Party supporters who celebrate her husband’s anti-establishment positions love to hate.

A vegetarian with a Harvard M.B.A., Mrs. Cruz is a managing director at Goldman Sachs, one of the Wall Street firms that helped set off the populist rage that ushered Mr. Cruz into the Senate in 2012. She works for Goldman in Houston, where she lives with the couple’s two young children, and as her husband’s fame has increased — depending on the audience, he is among the most pilloried or revered members of the Senate — she has maintained a low profile.

“I think it works really well for our family for us both to have careers, and I know what my commitments are to Goldman,” Mrs. Cruz, 41, said in an interview last week in her husband’s Senate office. “I think it’s also really good for our girls to have me at home with them.”

Yet the fallout from her husband’s role in the Congressional fiscal showdown this month did not spare Mrs. Cruz, one half of what she calls “a great team.” And it was the Democrats who seemed to be making her background an issue.

As her husband helped force a government shutdown over his opposition to President Obama’s health care law and argued that members of Congress and their staffs should be forced to buy insurance without any government contribution, the Democrats sensed an opening.

Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, the Senate’s No. 2 Democrat, tried to push Mr. Cruz into admitting that he was on his wife’s blue-chip Goldman health plan — a sign of hypocrisy, he implied....

I don’t think she’s weird looking at all. If you want weird, see Calista Gingrich.

I just read that his wife is a Goldman Sachs VP.

Very concerning.

I'm not a vegetarian, though my eating habits have moved in that direction over the past year.

I basically follow the "Eat to Live" philosophy espoused by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. His book was recommended to me by my doctor, when I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. All I can say is that it works for me. There's no counting calories, but I've never eaten so much in my life. I was on diabetes medication for 3 months, but the regimen eliminated the need for medication.

Simply put, it's "beans and greens". When I bring one of my salads for lunch, my female co-workers are always complimentary.

I'll have an occasional burger, and chicken and fish several times a week, but nowhere near what I ate a year ago. The other big change has been the avoidance of soft drinks. Now it's water and iced tea, with an occasional adult beverage.

I don't force my views on my family, but my son's eating healthier now, and he likes black bean burgers (chipotle seasoned from Costco - green box).

Her angular features would be right at home in WV, western VA, western MD and the general vicinity thereof. I think it’s one branch of the “Scots-Irish” heritage.

Who do you support for President?

Be specific.

Wonder how hard Walker will play the populist card against the fact that Mrs. Cruz is Managing Director at Goldman? That’s sure as what the Dems will do if he wins.

I’m looking forward to hearing if they have ever had an Illegal Alien Nanny, or if one of their Friends did.

I certainly hope that the Toilet Paper they use is made from Recycled Paper. Talk about a scandal. LOL

Cruz will be exception, a Harvard Grad whose Grades will be released to the Public, whether he wants them to or not.

She is not a “managing director.” She is currently head of the Southwest Region in the Investment Management Division of Goldman, Sachs & Co. I was a district manager of a company and no one ever referred to me as a “managing director” that I recall.

Getting this out in the open now is a good thing. Let the Cruz’s deal with it, learn how to address it and how to effectively fight back.

If he does win the nomination it’ll be old news, and there’ll be any one of a dozen responses sitting in the can, ready to go if the issue comes up.

And I’ll guess that Mrs. Cruz earns her paycheck at Goldman. Can Chelsea Clinton say the same for the time she spent raking in a 6-figure salary at McKinsey?

It depends.. There’s often a difference between position and title.

I worked for a Big-8 accounting/consulting company that went public. All the “Partners” were retitled “Managing Directors” (a title change) while their position names remained the same.

FReeper Grampa Dave perhaps said it best:
If Hiterily gets elected with enough votes in Congress, these will be the good old days.

The purists, who will stay at home because our candidate couldn't walk on water without getting the soles of his Teva's wet will have gifted us with another Clintoon pillaging.
