must have been a complaint from a displaced north eastern liberal or a Kalifornia soccer pansy.

Why are they permitted to keep score? Won’t some delicate child’s feelings get hurt?

Why are they permitted to play a contact sport at all? Won’t a delicate child get bruises?

Why are they permitted to play a game that involves skill? Won’t that draw a delicate child’s attention to the fact that some kids have more skill either as a gift or through hard work, aided by a better home situation, than others?

This is so wrong on so many levels. Someone needs to get these kids involved with a safer activity, such as signing praise songs for Obama.

Thank-you for coaching. I’d let my son play on your team. Except he’s 19 now.

Good points. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the “C” team was playing by the end of that game.

speaking of the Obamacare mess, I read that the healthcare.gov website put applicants’ names on the sex offender registry list. I read that here, but they haven’t chosen to report that on Fox yet. I suppose they don’t have air time because they have to spend so much time on football scores. (dripping with sarcasm)

The sex offender list story was SATIRE.

So put in the 3rd string. Give guys who have never scored a chance to do so, etc.

Aledo played their bench warmers throughout the 2nd half.

No, but I watched WSU put in their second string, and third, at the half against Idaho this year. Idaho’s coached publicly thanked WSU’s coach after the game for doing that.

Idaho was actually able to move the ball at that point, and scored a couple of times. It was excellent experience for WSU.

I’m going to agree with the parents here. League should sanction the coaches here for unbelievably bad sportsmanship.

There was a running clock and the coach put in his scrubs. Too bad, so sad. There is such a thing as a life lesson. Losing a football game doesn’t make you a bad person, just a bad football player.

In PA (and most states) you have a mercy rule, a running clock in the second half when a team is up by 35 or more.
*********************
I can’t believe they would do that beyond pee-wee football!
I’ve never heard of such a rule, so I question your “most states” comment. Not saying you’re wrong, but just questioning what you said.

Texas HS football is played by the rules. If a team gets trounced, it’s within the rules of a full game.

Aledo HS was playing bench warmers through the 2nd half and calling running plays (to run the clock; not to run up the score). The opponents just couldn’t stop them.

Just heard on Foxnews that even the winning teams locker room was like a funeral. The players felt bad. It was the coach that wanted to jack up the score and humiliate the other teams players.
*******************************
I watched Fox News from 0730 and throughout the day and NEVER saw/heard that accusation.

The Aledo coach was playing everyone on his team and calling running plays to let the clock run. It wasn’t his fault that his bench warmers could run 60 yard TDs against a hapless defense.

Again, high school players are just kids. No one needs to see slaughters prolonged.

If you look up “mercy rule” on Wikipedia, it says that 34 states use it in HS football. It also gives examples where coaches have mutually agreed to use it in the NCAA.

It’s not a bad thing.

I'm a KU Jayhawk Alum and fan. My attorney is preparing a lawsuit against 9 “Big 12” football teams.

But wait! KU Basketball starts 10/29! Yee-Haw!

He did everything he could do , even put in his 3rd string team , Buchanan said he tried stopping the game from getting out of hand, even speaking to referees before the game about clock management if the score was a blowout. He approached referees again at halftime, he said, and asked to implement a running clock in the fourth quarter to hasten the game’s end, what else could the man do?
