America is suffering from an epic case of Armageddon fatigue.
Budget showdown, government shutdown, debt ceiling debaclethe stakes are real but the establishment seems to feed off the chaos they create as a means to foment fear and outrage and translate it into campaign donations for themselves.
Look closely and youll see that something seismic is going on under the surface of the manufactured chaos in D.C.
Washington has morphed into an extortion racket, a place where members of the permanent political class threaten to inflict legislative and regulatory pain to extract campaign donations that they can then siphon into the pockets of themselves and their family members.
In a new book featured this Sunday on 60 Minutes titled Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets, Peter Schweizer explains how Washington politicians use a set of mafia-style legislative tactics to extort people and industries into donating to them out of fear of political and legal reprisals.
Schweizer interviewed former Chairman of Apache Corporation Ray Plank. Plank said campaign cash and lobbying contracts now function as protection money to keep lawmakers and regulators from going after you.

I’m a big Palin supporter, and I believe she does have Rebecca Mansour on staff for some of her writing—which is good and appropriate and the standard for pols writing such pieces and giving major speeches. Anyone who has followed Palin knows already that she has a steel-trap mind of her own, with a rare talent for getting to and grasping the core of an issue almost immediately. Further, she has a rare ability to boil it down and communicate it such that the common person can immediately grasp it as well. Those are just two bits to her extraordinary political talent IMO.
Is it sexist that the question of a writer only seems to come up with Palin? Yeah, probably.
That companies are pressured to pay protection money to both parties, weighted in difference by who’s in power, is not news—but it is an important piece in understanding our corrupt system.
It has to be!!!
My personal experience is that the Sarah detractors in the GOP tend to be overweight women.
It’s shameful that they would disparage our brightest hope for America such a lowly reason!
I never knew that about Humblegunner!
The bracelet instantly reminded me of “Wonder Woman”. Seems about right!
Frankly, it's irrelevant. If she has one or more writers/editors helping her with these articles, it's still being done with her words and voice; the writers and/or editors would just be there to polish and package.
I mean, more power to her if she does this without any help, but there's no insult to her intelligence or ability to assume she might have assistance with the finished product.
The reason ObamaCare was pushed through with such abandon: Congresscritter knew health-care lobbyist would be lined up 'round the block with sacks of cash - maneuvering for 'breaks' that would give their companies billions... A version of pay to play that's strangely legal.
It is FR polite to ping any FReeper you mention in a post, even if you are not directly addressing him.
I can also assure you that Gunner is definitely not an overweight woman.
1. The finished product of anyone who [wisely] hires a pro writer/ghost writer is STILL a product of that person. Obama very probably had little to do with the actual composing of "Dreams of my Father," but it still pretty accurately reflects Obama; it is most assuredly "his" book.
2. Listening to Palin speak off-the-cuff and reading her short facebook posts, it's pretty obvious to me that Palin writes her own stuff, and I know that Reagan wrote many if not all of his own speeches by hand, and pro speech writers tweaked and "perfected" them afterward. I read "Going Rogue" and bet that the pro writer who helped Palin with the book didn't have much editing/revising to do on the stuff Palin gave her. Palin is naturally a very good writer and indeed, LOTS of people are naturally good writers.
3. Someone can spell terribly, commit lots of typos, and misuse punctuation and grammar, and still be an excellent writer. Conversely, someone can spell perfectly, be meticulously clear of typos and grammatical errors, and still be a terrible writer.
Well, he was MY overweight woman, at least for one night. XD
I’ve never associated humblegunner with polite.
Speaking of Our Sarah, last night I was watching a bit of Hannity, switched channels when Ann Coulter came on, tuned to CNN Anderson Cooper just to see what was going on
They had a panel that consisted of, including Anderson, 2 homosexuals, President of Freedom Works (guy with funny side burns) and Gloria Borger
They all completely trashed Sarah, particularly Gloria Borger and the homo with the beard, Freedom Works guy never mentioned her name, but never defended her for a second
Was not Surprised because Dick Army founder of Freedom Works I believe, never had a kind word to say about her ever.
Was really upsetting, watched until I reminded myself that I did not have to watch it, by this time Ann Coulter was done her segment, and tuned back into Hannity
That’s sickening. Those vicious “folks” of Obama’s never let go. Sarah Palin is so much more accomplished than all of them put together and they know it, so they lower themselves to knock her, to make themselves “feel” superior.
God bless and keep Sarah Palin and all her millions of faithful, pro-American, pro-family, patriotic supporters too.
Leftists have strained a gut to try to destroy Sarah. (Jealousy Couric and her ilk) Sarah just keeps on going like the energizer bunny and standing for her principles.
>>shame that it has all went back to normal since she has gone.<<
Eska, I have this deep feeling that we are going to have to rip, burn and tear our government down to the naked bare frame, the Constitution, in order to correct what ails her. Entire commissions, committees, bureaucracies and parties need to be exposed for their underhanded, corrupted convolutions with the financiers. Many will need to go to jail for their crimes. We will have to rebuild the whole process. I don’t expect any serious fixing to be done until after the shooting stops and that is still a few years away from starting.
So, I don’t expect to be here for the real fun of building a new America.
Ya know Palin straightened the cesspool mess up, here in Alaska. She sent a bunch of Repubs off to the Big House, but they are out and attempting a return to politics; but unelectable. Crazy thing is many Repubs I consider assets to preserving our freedom, also hate Sarah, example: Look at Donny Young. But Palin sure put the oil industry back in their place, for a couple years at least.
I think it's a never ending battle against corruption and we don't have enough Sarah Palins being born; but I'll support her whatever she does, have watched her in action and she is for real in my book.
He is very polite to those who are polite to him. His friends are fiercely loyal to him as well.
Still, mentioning a FReeper by name without pinging him or her is a breach of Free Republic etiquette, regardless your opinion of the person.
And you just did it again.
She convinced me the night, as VP candidate, when the power to the monitors went out and she didn’t skip a beat. She changed subjects about four times and everything she said was in order. She didn’t attempt to hurry. She obviously knew what she came to say. I know, she probably wrote notes on the palm of her hand. LOL
I love the fact that she believes in the God as I do and she proud of it.
I think all in all, she would make a fine President, VP or Senator. I like the fact that the media spends a lot of air time trying to shut her down. I wish we had many more just like her or Ted Cruz.
May I make a suggestion. Every time we send a check into the government to say, the IRS, on the transaction space, we put extortion as the reason for payment. Probably get a “visit” but hey, it’s still a free country.......for now.
