A group of Boy Scouts leaders may face criminal charges after purposely knocking over an ancient Utah desert rock formation and posting a video of the incident online, authorities say
The men were leading a group of 14 to 16-year-old Boy Scouts on a trip to Goblin Valley State Park when they said they noticed the top of the rock formation was loose and feared it was dangerous.
"This is about saving lives," Dave Hall, who shot the video, told The Associated Press on Friday. "One rock at a time."

As dumb as it MAY seem....he may have done a good deed.
Yes, these rocks are cool. But they are simple sandstone, maybe a few thousand years old, and would eventually fall by themselves.
We need a little perspective on this. Notice how we kill over 3000 babies a day without blinking, but we’re getting all excited about some rocks. Time to shake ourselves and look around.
I think the correct response would be to keep the kids off the rocks in that case.
It was pushed over pretty easily.
I have been reading psyco liberal fascists saying they should be shot, jailed for 25 years, etc...
This outrage is more Earth worship from urbanites who use it to spew their hate.
It was a boulder sitting on a mound of dirt.
This is a State Park and chances are that if Utah totally regulated their own abortion laws, there may well be NO abortion in Utah.
In Vino, Veritas, I imagine.
Yeah, I rob houses in my neighborhood, and I think it’s OK, because other people are murdering babies, which is worse.
Moral relativism comes to FR.
Given the lack of decent role models, sadly the correct response seems to be to keep your kids out of the Boy Scouts these days.
I saw the rock they moved- it was amazing that it stayed up there this long if it was able to be moved that easily
it did actually wiggle from not too hard of a push it really could have fallen and hurt someone
Apparently a bit older than thousands of years according to the article:
“The rock formation is about 170 million years old, Utah State Parks spokesman Eugene Swalberg said. The park in central Utah is dotted with thousands of the eerie, mushroom shaped sandstone formations.”
The horror.
Where’s the video ?
Good. I say proper punishment is for them to put it back like it was - hand-tools only.
Correct. Find a picture of them from 25 years ago and notice the change today.
“It was a boulder sitting on a mound of dirt.”
A lot of people go to see those boulders. Any of natures wonders can be reduced to simplistic terms as you have here.
I believe they were highlighting the dichotomy, not comparing them for excusal.
Good. The idiots should be charged. Mind-boggling that “Scouts” would be responsible such an innately disrespectful and vandalous act, which thoroughly goes against their entire code. But then again, since the BSA caved like abject cowards to the deviant homo lobby, it’s not like I have much regard for the damned organization left.
