WASHINGTON Congressional Republicans conceded defeat on Wednesday in their bitter budget fight with President Obama over the new health care law as the House and Senate approved last-minute legislation ending a disruptive 16-day government shutdown and extending federal borrowing power to avert a financial default with potentially worldwide economic repercussions.
With the Treasury Department warning that it could run out of money to pay national obligations within a day, the Senate voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday evening, 81 to 18, to approve a proposal hammered out by the chambers Republican and Democratic leaders after the House on Tuesday was unable to move forward with any resolution. The House followed suit a few hours later, voting 285 to 144 to approve the Senate plan, which would fund the government through Jan. 15 and raise the debt limit through Feb. 7.

I knew and said as much (check my past messages) when I found out Boehner selected her as one of the House GOP to get in on the "negotiation!"
So Lynn Jenkins is that woman who stands next to Boner during press conferences, with that *huge* frown on her face all the time. I've been wondering who she was...
It's hard for me to understand why any liberals and RINOs would get elected in Kansas (I'm stuck in The People's Republik of Connecticut). Maybe Kansas isn't as conservative as I think it is...?
And Dimebox Can't forget Dime Box.
In politics votes are often cast so someone can get re-elected the next time.
There were only 15 or 20 House Republicans who ate with Ted Cruz the other night and I suspect one of them was a Judas anyway.
I SINCERELY BELIEVE ALL BUT A HANDFUL OF THE CONGRESS ARE FAKING CONSERVATISM SO THEY GET RE-ELECTED BACK HOME.
Boehner had enough votes so he was able to let well over a hundred of his flock like my congressman (who had Boehner in the district for a fundraiser the other month) cover their butts with NO votes.
Don’t be so depressed. It’s not as bad as all that. Things will get better again. After a few years of Obamacare, the country will realize how terrible it is and will vote out both the law and those who were responsible for it. Those who opposed it will be seen as visionaries and heroes.
Just remember, we had Jimmy Carter right before Ronald Reagan.
Defund the GOP.
Defund the party and only fund the members you like.
Richard Hanna voted yes...you are done.
They have blood on their hands...no doubt about it.
72 republicans have pretty well outed themselves.
Anyone know how Boehner voted? You’d think he voted “for” the amendments, but these guys are so craven.
We also see 122 republicans voting against the Senate version, but that really means nothing. Many of those are not conservative but live in conservative districts and the democrat vote gave them cover to cast a political vote acceptable to their district.
So, we now know that any speaker of the House would not have had the ultimate support of this crew of republicans if they’d wanted a showdown with the president.
A speaker with his majority caucus behind him can easily defy a president on this kind of thing.
Absolutely. I remember years ago listening to campaign season stump speeches in California no less, where even Democrats sounded like Tea Party members.
Almost nobody listens to what they say and then watches what they do when they go back to Washington, and then compares the two, and votes accordingly next time. Attention span issues.
Politicians come and politicians go, but entitlement programs are forever.
Compromise? Compromise?
Really?
Compromise??? What did Obama compromise on?
You are not alone. Is America even still worth fighting for? Obama rules.
People in OH must have no shame!
Conservatism is quite new to KS, just a few House members in fact. Bob Dole had been the KS “conservative” who got invited to the talk shows. Mrs. Kassebaum Baker was hardly on any of them. She is even more liberal than her second husband. Before Kassebaum and Dole were ultra-libs Frank Carlson and James B. Pearson for many, many years.
Nearly everyone here voted for Romney last year. Next year, same **** different dude. Anyone who balks will be mercilessly insulted, denounced, shunned.
Yet we go on blaming the compromisers in Congress.
The better informed people are too selfish, lazy, and cowardly.
You could lower your income and not pay and get in no trouble at all...The GOP is grand, yes, and so is the taxpaying enabler.
Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan area is a hot bed of liberals. She is a traitor to the state of Kansas and is in the running for ugliness on the scale of Helen Thomas.
Hometown Kansas girl MY ASS!
