Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday he would not vote for a deal to reopen the government and raise the debt limit if it cannot attract support in the Republican-led House, arguing there is little point in claiming victory if a deal does not pass muster in the other chamber of Congress.
If the deal cannot attract the majority of House Republicans, that really does compromise Speaker Boehners leadership, Mr. Graham told ABCs This Week with George Stephanopoulos, adding he understands that defunding or delaying Obamacare is not a viable option.
Mr. Graham said the last thing Mr. Boehner needs is to see his leadership tinkered with further, after the hard-right wing of the Republican Party insisted on changes to Obamacare as a precondition of any deal.
The strategy has not worked, and recent polls give poor marks to the GOP.

Maybe he learned that the NBC/WSJ has been discredited.
What a wacko bird he’s turning out to be today this sunday afternoon
“I will support Obama’s destruction of America, only if the other Repubs will.....”
POS.
Graham is finally understanding that his primary challenge is serious business.
He’s getting conservative religion, at least for now.
Graham is finally understanding that his primary challenge is serious business.
He’s getting conservative religion, at least for now.
But as usual he undercuts the conservatives.
..............Were in a compromised situation, but Im going on offense, Graham explains, in an interview at Petes Diner on Capitol Hill. Members of Congress and their staffs should not be exempted from Obamacare, and Im going to insist that if the Senate wants to move forward on any deal, we have to overturn the [Office of Personnel Management’s] ruling on congressional employees, or, at the least, force senators to vote on it in the coming days.
Now, I hope the House rises to the occasion here, Graham continues. But were down to stopping bad things, and the only bad thing at this point that we can really push on is the OPM rule. At this point, Im not sure if were going to get it, so Im going to object on any deal until I get that up-or-down vote. Thats only fair, and I believe the American people will be with me.
Grahams pledge to object to any deal that doesnt include a vote on the Vitter amendment could shake up the ongoing Senate negotiations. Senate Democrats arent interested in having that vote, and theyve asked Graham to not make this eleventh-hour demand. But the Democrats have moved the goal posts on a reasonable deal, he says. I know we cant complain too much about our self-inflicted wounds, but the Democrats have gone too far.
Good or Bad, I don’t care what Graham does or says anymore.
His goose is cooked with me.
When he does wrong it’s typical.
When he does right that’s nice but it’s too late.
He’s proven he needs to go.
Thanks for that.
I must disagree with you a bit on Sen Graham. He has been one of the few to attempt to stop the terrible affect of military budget cuts and what they are doing to our military. Very few Republicans, in the House or the Senate, are doing that.
Now, it is the Republicans, who to use their own words, want to "bake in" the Sequester, which every single economist and budget analyst says makes the Dept of Defense suffer the most.
Government Shutdown Negotiations Stuck On Sequestration
I am disgusted by the behavior of our Republican "leadership" who is willing to cause further harm to our national defense, while they have subtracted not one dime from entitlements, the real cause of our exploding debt and deficits.
Entitlements were exempt from Sequestration.
The men and women of the US military have done more for this nation than any other segment of the population. Moreover, in the last 12 years, these people have been deployed again, and again, and again - while America went to Pizza Hut and Forever 21.
Graham is a weasel. A shifty, self-serving creature of the senate who gets too much time on Fox News.
"You know how a voice can stir one. Your voice and the voice of Sibyl Vane are two things that I shall never forget. When I close my eyes, I hear them, and each of them says something different. I don't know which to follow." -Dorian Gray, or Lindsey Graham...........Take your pick
This man is completely adrift without a clue.
I appreciate you and your post and wish that Sen Graham for all his good points was a consistent and reliable conservative, but he isn’t. We all need to work on our character and our commitment to doing the right thing for the right reasons.
How so? He's only not supporting this Senate deal because he thinks it'll fail in the House. The principle of the thing doesn't even enter into his lame lib brain.
Leading from behind is now "going on the offensive"? LOL
Shut up, Linda. You're embarrassing yourself.
??
Of course. (Where's that "Captain Obvious" image?)
Uber RINO Lindsey Ping
"Republican by day, Democrat by night."
Want on or off this ping list?
Just FReepmail me
You said that Graham is "getting conservative religion..." My point is that he's not. He's just doing the usual political two-step, which only bears the vaguest resemblance to holding a true conservative position.
From the article:
Graham told ABCs This Week with George Stephanopoulos, adding he understands that defunding or delaying Obamacare is not a viable option.
Do you see my point? Graham still doesn't get that his job is to fight for the principles his constituents believe in. I don't think he's ever understood the basic principles we all believe in at all.
