Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), who has been rumored as being considered to replace Janet Napolitano to head the Department of Homeland Security, used some very strange language earlier this week to characterize a sentiment for a clean resolution to end the government shutdown. She labeled it a form of martial law.
Yes, we have heard Ms. Lee say some whimsical and ridiculous things in her time in office, which Im sure embarrass her fellow Texans, but this has to be one of the most ridiculous ones to date.
She pushed that the measure was bi-partisan, including Democrats and Republicans.
Its something called a continuing resolution, but its a bill that you put on the floor that has been passed already by Republicans and Democrats in the United States Senate .that we could vote on today, Lee said.
We have martial law what that means and my colleagues know what it means is that you can put a bill on in just minutes, she added.
What in the world does martial law have to do with a government spending bill? Is this implying that Congress can just willy nilly pass a law to do whatever they like, in any manner they like, constitutional or unconstitutional? I think Ms. Jackson better check her 6 if that is the case. I see truckers and vets coming to town who would disagree with her.
Darla Dawald writes:
The term martial law in a legislative context is somewhat obscure but it has been used before to define lawmakers ability to fast track bills without going through the usual congressional process.
However, Lees insistence that a Senate-approved resolution to fund the federal government be fast-tracked via martial law appears to conflict with Article I, Section 7, Clause I of the Constitution, which states, All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives.
This clause was included by the founders to ensure that decisions related to the power of the purse reside with the legislative body which is closest to the American people.
The last time martial law was mentioned by a member of Congress was back in 2008 when Rep. Brad Sherman revealed how lawmakers were threatened with martial law in America by then Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson if they rejected the TARP bailout package.
So I was right. As Darla points out, it is a means of dismissing the Constitutional process and the law in order to push whatever Congress wants, whether it is lawful or not. Sheila Jackson Lee is among the most lawless witches in Congress. She is among many socialists and communists on the House Oversight committee in the House of Representatives, and she is more than in favor of grabbing your guns and stealing your right to own them. Why should this surprise us that she would use such terminology? Ill let the reader decide, but I have my own theories.
Beware, Ms. Jackson may have given a signal about what the Communists and socialists in the House, along with their comrade in the White House has planned.
The Congressional Black caucus are the smartest people in Congress. Why don’t we let them run America? They would do a great job I am sure
This clown and his party want CW2 pretty bad don’t they.
She feels comfortable threatening the American people.
Maybe the American people should threaten her a bit.
They are running America.
With their ‘white knight’ at the head of the column, they’re finally in charge; but, wait until it’s payback time. We’ll never have that unless the right makes a clean sweep, otherwise viva la revolucion!
Meanwhile, the negro on white crime escalates with robberies, murders and rapings. They behave like they’re in South Africa murdering farmers and their familes by the scores.
Shame on you for that totally uncalled for callous remark.
Bet you’d like to have that nose full of gold coins.
I wish Obama would take her advice. Declaring martial law would be like a declaration of civil war. It would give credibility to every conspiracy theorist about the nature of this President and his goals. If miss Sheila Jackson Lee wants to see a reply of the Civil war where the south wins declare Martial law.
Proof that nobody here reads beyond the headline.
Could she have something even more nefarious in mind? Well sure. But that’s not what the article is purportedly saying.
Am I a SJL defender or advocate? Far from it. Just pointing out that there’s more than just the headline.
Well, when you put it that way, it is quite a nose indeed, and I imagine it could hold well more than two handfuls of gold coins!!
It’s called BRA -— Black run America -—
Not literally true but who can deny such programs as 0bamacare are designed to take white money and give it to blacks. much that is done in America these days is designed to tax whites more and somehow transfer the proceeds to blacks Hispanics illegal aliens and other minorities.
I am generalizing of course
When morons like Shelia Jackson Lee speak this way they speak as though blacks (12% of the population) call the shots here
"We have martial law -- what that means -- and my colleagues know what it means -- is that you can put a bill on in just minutes," she added... THAT may very well be true! An insidious desensitization in the worx.
For me the biggest whopper came back around 2003, when SJL accused NOAA of racism for not giving hurricanes black names.
