With the October 17 deadline to raise the debt limit rapidly approaching, President Obama is not specifically ruling out using the 14th Amendment to increase the nation's borrowing ability if the political impasse continues and Congress fails to do so, but says he does not expect the fight to get to that point.
"I'm pretty willing to bet that there are enough votes in the House of Representatives right now to make sure that the United States doesn't end up being a deadbeat. The only thing that's preventing that from happening is Speaker Boehner calling the vote," the president told The Associated Press in an interview Friday that was released this morning.

If you’re intention is to make a point, or upbraid me for whatever, it would help if you were more specific regarding the “canard” you claim I subscribe to.
The canard to which I refer is that of using the 14th amendment to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling via executive branch action, the theme of this thread.
It’s typical to direct responses to someone who posts a thread, understanding that they’re directed at the author of said thread.

Mark Levin has been warning us on this issue. Once the Presdent seizes this power the legislative branch is dead and we are in full bodied tyranny.
Obama has no authority to spend. So, why would he have to borrow?

Article I, Section 7, which states that “All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives;
I’m fairly certain “raising the debt ceiling” has the same definition of revenue, that is; the total amount of money received by the government for goods or services provided during a certain time frame.
In reality you are absolutely correct, but politically I’m not so sure....the media is always banging the Dems drum for them. Please tell me how your coming to this conclusion. I’m curious.
As for the person of questionable ancestry in our White House, it would not surprise me at all to see him trample yet another part of our Constitution.
However, that still doesn't allow the 14th amendment's statement "The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, ... shall not be questioned" to override Article I, Section 8 "The Congress shall have power ... To borrow Money on the credit of the United States;" That power is given to Congress and only Congress.
Continuing to borrow past the debt limit is a clear violation of Article I, and any federal judge should quash it immediately, but so many are actively anti-Constitutional (cough, Chief Justice Roberts, cough) that I wouldn't be surprised to see that clear statement ignored.

Who would loan funds to the US government that any future President and/or Congress could repudiate with impunity, because no court would force the US to repay such an Unconstitutional debt because it was never authorized by law (Act of Congress)?
