HARTFORD — A police officer's gun accidentally discharged during a response to an armed robbery on Franklin Avenue on Saturday, and an officer was shot in the arm, police said.

It was not clear whether the officer whose gun discharged was shot, or another officer. The injury to the officer's forearm is non-life threatening, police said.

The officers were responding at about 9:30 p.m. to a report of an armed robbery at the Subway restaurant at 465 Franklin Ave.

I don’t assume Glock. I assume not too bright, undertrained, donut-eating twit-wearing-blue forgetting what minimal training the department gave him squeezing the trigger in an adrenalin-induced moment.

By the way, the Subway is about twenty yards from the Dunkin’ Donuts on Franklin Street.

with a few 'minor' adjustments, you can turn one gun into 5 guns

gun accidentally discharged

Impossible. Some action was taken by someone, not the gun.

Have you heard of someone shooting themselves in the head by discharging a 1911 45ACP after recoil?

“The officers arrived shortly thereafter, and while clearing the building, one of their guns discharged, police said.”
The gun didn’t just ‘discharge’.

Some dumb ass fired it.”

Said ‘dumbass’ had its finger inside the trigger guard before target acquisition had been accomplished.

Revision of training protocols is needed, apparently.

Hartford is such a smelly armpit of a city, especially it's north end, that it is common practice at night for the cops to drive around in their cruisers while holding their weapons in hand pointed at the floorboards between their legs.

I am completely serious. about this. It's just a place where you do your time until you can transfer out to the 'burbs.

Just curious if the 5-gun gun includes the pot of soil on the bottom, and leaves on top?

Anyway, this topic must include references to the accidental discharge greats of all time:

cop accidentally shoots suspect

Cop accidentally shoots gun in classroom full of kids.

“Hartford is such a smelly armpit of a city, especially it’s north end, that it is common practice at night for the cops to drive around in their cruisers while holding their weapons in hand pointed at the floorboards between their legs.”

That may be an indicator of increased frequency of cases of “Trauma induced ‘Toe-leo Syndrome’ from LEO induced Accidental Discharge”.

And, do the LEO’s ride around with hearing protection? If not, discharge of a firearm within a vehicle may induce Traumatic Aural Discharge - and the Guru wonders if IQ points might leak out along with some blood.

That community may need to consider implementation of an Urban Feral Reduction program.

Bounties work.

NO,,,, not really. Most suicide victims and accidental types use cheap guns. Any 1911, or cheap types, requires a second "pull of the trigger". BUTT!!!! if anybody has ever accomplished that, God bless them. PS!!!! I DO screen my customers....

Have a great Sunday my friend....

There are no accidental discharges, only negligent ones

I often wear my bone stock Remington rand 1911 while hunting. nice parkerized clean... bone stock....made in 1943.

I also break all the rules by carrying condition 2. as I shoot cowboy action, I am use to cocking the hammer as I push the pistol toward the target, not before.......

more often I carry my little, early 90s, Colt Mustang .380acp. fits right in my pocket.

Well.......don't do that!

if, when my boys were like 10 years old and had no problem with recoil like that, I must assume that this was like a 6 year old little girl or equivalent

There are no accidental discharges, only negligent ones

if you follow the rules of firearm handling. this cannot happen.

here are Jeff Cooper's rules(and the best rules)....

1.All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2.Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. (For those who insist that this particular gun is unloaded, see Rule 1.)
3.Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target. This is the Golden Rule. Its violation is directly responsible for about 60 percent of inadvertent discharges.
4.Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified.

Yep - at the range, the rule is to go hands-off when someone is down range - never saw a gun fire without someone handling it or dropping it (older weapons). Most modern weapons are really tough to drop and cause a discharge.

“just assume Glock every time one of these accidents happen”

Yep. Cop + weapon with no safety = accidental discharge. Happens at our range pretty frequently always a cop. They all carry Glocks in our county now.

“...officer’s gun accidentally discharged...”

Take it back to the manufacturer because it is defective...or perhaps correctly report that a police officer accidentally discharged his gun.

Is it too much to ask that journalists report the news instead of editorializing it?

And what does this say to the gun grabbers that want only police and military to possess firearms? I suppose the response will sound something like chirping crickets.

The problem with the ‘it was a Glock’ assertion is this: The NYPD used to have just as many accidental/negligent discharges... back in the 1970s. When all they had were revolvers with heavy DA pulls.

The problem isn’t the weapon.
