The political operative who brought former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin onto the national political stage as Sen. John McCain's 2008 vice presidential running mate now says he has deep regret about doing creating the freak show that's been running wild for four years in the Republican Party.
Steve Schmidt was running McCain's presidential race when he helped convince the GOP nominee that bringing in a fresh, conservative face like Palin would be a game changer in a race being dominated by Democrat Barack Obama. The results proved disastrous for McCain.
Palin became a leader of what Schmidt called an asininity wing of the Republican Party, hardcore conservatives looking to purge the party of moderates and anyone willing to compromise with Democrats.
For the last couple of years, weve had this wing of the party running roughshod over the rest of the party, Schmidt said on MSNBC. Tossing out terms like RINO, saying were going to purge, you know, the moderates out of the party.
Weve lost five U.S. Senate seats over the last two election cycles, he said. And fundamentally we need Republicans, whether theyre running for president, whether theyre in the leadership of the Congress, to stand up against a lot of this asininity.

It really, really is time to leave the GOP. The only way we are going to fix this country is to start another party.
THE LOSSES OF THOSE SENATE RACES WERE BECAUSE YOU AND YOUR DIVISION OF THE GOP TURD... FUNDED AND CREATED ATTACK ADS AND STORIES PLANTED IN THE MEDIA TO ENSURE THE LOSS OF THOSE CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES. YOU WERE IN LOCK STEP WITH DIMS... JUST LIKE YOU ARE ON FUNDING DEATHCARE. FU stevie!
I just knew he smoked the cork!
That’s ok sweetie, we all regret whoever started the John McCain freak show.
Yesterday, in a rather strange moment, Lamar Alexander defendied being a RINO by insulting Davy Crockett.
And the day before that McCains "whackobird" spoke for 21 hours, trying to explain how nutty the way DC does business is.
Can't wait for today's chapter
If McCain nominated a fellow RINO he would have lost by a landslide. Steve Schmidt knows it, knew it at the time, but needs visibility on MSNBC to get any attention. He’s using Sarah Palin’s name to drum up work. Pathetic.
Amazing how they wish to take back the one thing McCain has gotten right, even if he did do it as a last-minute desperate measure, a Hail Mary pass that was answered.
I see, the dems disposed of all vestiges of conservatives over the past 40 years. Many joined the GOP and some who were not quite that conservative became independents. Obviously that is what we must do, push out the libs from the GOP. Some can move to independent some can go back to where they came from, Crist in Florida for example.
Meanwhile, what is it they are so concerned with about party affiliation....drum roll: THE MONEY. All these POSs have one thing in common, they go where the money is. Campaign chairmen, consultants, media types et al, they only care about one thing: MONEY. Once the RINOs are gone, there will be less MONEY to throw around by the party.
“Sarah Palins presence on the 2008 ticket is the only thing that saved John McCain” .YEP...McCain knows that and that is why he has become worse and the worst.
YEP.......only reason I voted in 2008........
I can’t wait to start receiving my RNC fundraising letters so I can tell ‘em to F-Off and what I think if their so-called leadership, mailing it back in their prepaid envelope.
John McCain and his advisors appear to be all communists.
Didn’t they bring in Gov. Palin to be the “Lipstick on the Pig”. Now they are trying to turn it the other way. That dog ain’t gonna hunt.
Steve Schmidt is a democrat plant. It could not be more obvious.
Schmidt reminds me of that convicted pedophile U.N. weapons inspector Scott Ritter. ...less the hair.
The RINO Party plays opposition to make it look like a two party system. It isn’t, it’s all fakery and socialism. Back to the future.
I voted hoping that if elected she would steal the show and cause him to stroke out making her the President. I know thats goin around the house to come in the front door, but it wasn’t to see him win.
Agreed!
