Speaker John Boehner said Thursday the GOP-controlled House will not accept a temporary spending bill from the Democratic Senate if it is shorn clean of a tea party plan to "defund Obamacare."
"I don't see that happening," Boehner told reporters.
At the same time, the Ohio Republican said House GOP leaders would unveil legislation to lift the government's borrowing cap, but only if the new health care law is delayed for a year. He defended that measure's relatively modest spending cuts even as some rank-and-file conservatives pressed for more.
"It does not cut spending significantly. It does not fix the problem," Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., said of the debt ceiling package. He said he was undecided about whether to support it. "We need to significantly cut federal government spending, or long-term have a balanced budget constitutional amendment," he said.
Obamacare: Massive New Rules Revealed for 2013
Pressure is building on fractious House Republicans as a partial government shutdown looms at midnight Monday if a bitterly-divided Congress can't send a temporary spending bill to President Barack Obama on time.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid immediately rejected Boehner's proposal. Meanwhile, the Senate trudged ahead toward a Friday vote on stripping the defund Obamacare provision from the House-passed stopgap funding bill.

Chattanooga conservatives tried to warn Tennessee about Corker. Wish they had listened.
Since Ginsburg is a radical liberal what difference would it make?
I’d call him a shirley but all the shirleys I know have a bigger set.
At this point, let’s fund it for one entire year so everyone can experience how wonderful it is. Then, we’ll see what happens in the 2014 midterms.
“bait and switch”
LOL! Just the phrase that came to me after I posted!
Looks like it’s all over but the crying:
http://blogs.rollcall.com/wgdb/corker-only-cruz-and-lee-holding-up-cr-votes/
“The Tennessee Republican wanted it to be clear that [only] two Republican senators, Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah, were objecting to an agreement moving up the final votes to tonight.”
Right now the alternative Republican plan is health care by tax credit, similar to the child tax credit, I believe.
IOW, a means based return of money to those who file a return, with the wealthy getting zero to little and the poor, even if without reportable income getting a lot.
With this, they go into the market and buy insurance.
The new law would require a nationwide open market on health insurance.
They retain portability, they retain pre-existing conditions, and I think they retain the 26 year old retention on parent insurance plans.
I don’t want to implement it. We have been fighting to prevent the implementation of ObamaCare. As soon as it starts, an entire industry of people beholden to jobs based on obamacare taxes will be created, and they’ll fight like heck to keep it going so they get to retain their jobs. It’s the same problem we have with getting rid of the income tax.
Delay will save Obamacare. We have to defund.
*******
You are right. Obamacare will destroy healthcare as we know it and cuase the loss of many more jobs. Due to its high cost, disposable incomes will also decline thereby further damaging the economy. It will be an economic disaster that the Dems would be held accountable for. Make the Dems pay for this disaster at the polls in 2014.
Delay only works to their advantage.
Delay should be a last resort. But you can sya “We tried to repeal it; we tried to defund it; we tried to delay it so you, the working people of America, could get the same break that the Democrats gave Big business. We need more seats so we can complete this task.”
Then DO IT!!!

Alternate headline:
Boner screws up a one car funeral procession.
That’s Boner’s goal, to help the Democrats in 2014.
I swear to you that the GOPe is in collusion with the Dems to protect ObamaCare and lessen the flak for the Dems in 2014.
Traitors, the lot of them. And they deserve a traitor’s fate, not that there’s any chance they will get it. More’s the pity.
The B-hole wants to give the mid-term elections to the Democrats by protecting them from the mess they’ve made.
Delay is better than implementation.
Yep. NO WAIVERS. Let everyone feel the pain and misery of obozocare.
I agree that delay is better than paying for this mess. However, I am really tired of having to select choice # 2.
This kind of stuff is why the democrats pulled defeat from the jaws of victory in recent elections.
The conservative voters are simply not excited about sending republicans to Washington, DC.
Most of the Republicans in the US Senate show us no real leadership, and they don’t show a defining difference from the democrats.
Like it or not, this is the situation. We are gonna have to knock off more heavyweight republicans in the Senate primaries before they see how ticked off we are.
Tell me again, what’s the difference between having John McCain and having a democrat in his slot?
If he were to support DELAY, would you then support it?
********
No because Obamacare will be the hideous train wreck it was predicted to be. I would prefer that Obama and the Democrats pay politically for the ensuing chaos, costs and systemic failures. Its going to be far worse than anyone imagined.
If I was a Dem, I’d be praying for a delay as they will be held completely accountable for this mess. I’d also be scheming ways to implicate the gullible Republicans and put the blame on them for any problems. The Dems are very good at that tactic don’t you know.
I fear that Republicans will be duped once again and unwittingly come to their rescue.
If a delay was the only option left on the table, the Republicans should take the Christmas tree approach and load up the deal with lots of onerous conditions. Make the package very painful and minimize the impact of Obamacare on the people.
