Obama Jokes He no Longer Smokes 'Because I'm Scared of my Wife'

By Morgan Little September 24, 2013, 11:52 a.m. President Obama has been burned again by a hot microphone, with an offhand joke that he had to quit smoking “because I’m scared of my wife,” captured during the U.N. General Assembly.
“I hope you quit smoking,” Obama told U.N. Special Rapporteur Maina Kiai during a brief exchange Monday, with the president admitting that he still chews Nicorette gum.
“No, no, I haven’t had a cigarette in probably six years,” Obama said. “That’s because I’m scared of my wife.”
Scared or not, Obama’s timeline, which would place his last cigarette around 2007, fails to match up with previous statements from the White House that he had been smoking as recently as 2010.

However, on a serious note, I think that I'd not hide behind my wife when it comes to making a decision like that.
"I decided to quit smoking. End of story." would suffice, I think. The fact that he feels the need to hide behind his wife says plenty about his character, or lack thereof.

During a 2009 news conference, Obama indicated that he hadn’t quite given up his smokes.
“I’ve said before that as a former smoker I constantly struggle with it,” he said. “Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes. Yes. Am I a daily smoker, a constant smoker? No.”

A black friend of mine told me that the purple lips are a sign of oxygen deprivation from smoking. He said this is common knowledge in the black community and I found that interesting.
