Maybe the people we need to be calling (in addition to our senators, or the senators who claim to be ours) are our representatives. We need to tell them to take Reid’s amendment out and send it right back to the Senate within minutes of getting it.
Or even better yet, pass a resolution right now telling the Senate that anything that comes back with Obamacare funded is DOA so it is all on the Senate to decide whether they’re gonna fund the government (minus Obamacare) or not. If this is all about who has the last chance to get the CR passed before the clock runs out, then the House could play ping pong easily in this game of chicken. Send it back to the Senate as many times as they try funding Obamacare.
What John Roberts said in his crappy Obamacare ruling was that elections have consequences. Well, the people voted to put R’s in control of the purse, and it’s time for that election to have consequences. Right, John McCain??? Right, Tim Kaine?? Right, Dick Durbin???
As for Harry Reid, by saying there was nothing said in those 21 hours that they didn’t already know, he’s telling every person who Tweeted and every person whose letter was read that he knows their pain and farts in their general direction. Should make a good ad somewhere down the line...
I was almost physically ill when we went from Ted Cruz to Harry Reid. Funny thing, that when the Senate hall was nearly empty we finally heard words that rang true and the spirit of the Founders came alive - almost like Narnia’s dryads and naiads came alive at night - only to be frozen again when the White Witch cracked his whip at dawn. I don’t think it’s an accident that Harry Reid looks like death itself. It’s what he brings in his wake.
So the full House doesn’t get any more input on it?
If that’s the case then we need to start a recall effort for Boehner and Cantor, BEFORE they get the job of reconciliation. Let them know there will be SERIOUS repercussions if they screw us all for the sake of a “show”!!!!!!!
I know Cantor has said that the votes are all just for show and Obamacare will be funded. If he’s the one who will be deciding this thing, then anybody who votes for cloture is absolutely a traitor to the constituents, and this really and truly is the last chance for any of them to make the good stand. I believe Boehner is already so badly compromised that he is worse than worthless. My guess is that Valerie Jarrett gave him permission to defund Obamacare in the House to save face with R’s, because the fix was already in for the reconciliation.
Somebody tell me what we can do to tell Cantor and Boehner that they are history - BEFORE they do the dirty deed.
Can the House members call for a revote on who will be their majority leader?
Can they put Louie Gohmert in?
Maybe we should call for the reconciliation process to be televised.
Good post. Just to expound slightly, the House has already compromised giving the Dems everything they want except Obamacare. If they stick to that, Reid is in the hot seat. If the Senate folds, which I think it will, Obama will veto and the House rolls out the same argument - we have compromised and there ain’t no more to give. You can’t have 100% so you have to give up something.
If the repubicans weren’t so spineless they could do it. They need to grow a backbone, like yesterday!
My understanding is they get to vote on whatever comes out of reconciliation but it has to go to committee first and be reported out. I’m not sure but I don’t think they can make amendments since that would break whatever deal came out of reconciliation.
I’m with you on the leadership though and simply don’t trust them for anything. These guys inspire no one and the best they can do is bully House members. They have “loser” tattooed on their ankles. I wish they were both canned from leadership but not sure the conservative reps have the votes.
I don’t think the Senate will fold. I think Cantor and Boehner have it all choreographed. They were allowed to defund it in the House as a show, knowing it would all be undone in reconciliation. Somebody leaked Cantor’s comments about that - that they would have a show vote that would still let Obamacare be funded because of reconciliation. Somebody help me out with that. I know there were threads about it. How did Cantor’s comments become public?
If that’s how it works, with them not being able to amend it, then the only option would be to buck their own leaders and vote down the “reconciled” version.
Maybe we need to be starting a recall effort against Cantor and Boehner, and maybe we need to be getting pledges from our Representatives that they will not vote for ANY legislation - including a “reconciled” version - which funds Obamacare. They need to let Boehner know that they will NOT back up his negotiations with their vote if he gives away the family jewels.
Welcome to Free Republic. You’ll figure the rules out in due time. Many of them you will appreciate.
You could be right and I think that would spell the end for the GOP. They are counting on a bad economy to win the House in 2014. I think they are delusional and will get the blame for that too because they are so feckless and stupid. These guys are just media butt smoochers because that is all they know how to do. They are pathetic.
<sniff>
Yes, but it would pass because the Dems in the House would back it with enough RINOs for it to pass. And with Boehner leading - remember "sequestration"? A fools deal and Boehner thought he was being so smart.
OK, here ya go!
Maybe we need to start recall efforts against the RINO’s too...
I don’t even know if it’s possible.
Maybe we need to camp out at their offices. Get in their faces. I keep thinking back to when Tom Daschle was the D leader and ended up voting against an abortion thing - was it Partial-Birth Abortion? He had just gotten so much pressure that he HAD to do the right thing.
Maybe we should let them know that voting the wrong way shows the NSA has dirt on them...

I’m hoping people will do that in their districts. I had a great congressman until they gerrymandered his district and he lost to Tammy Duckworth(less). That was Joe Walsh - super solid conservative.
We need to recall McCain.
He has to go!
