WASHINGTON — Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz said Thursday that he would use any means necessary, including a filibuster, to help ensure passage of a continuing resolution that defunds Obamacare.
“I will do everything necessary and anything possible to defund Obamacare,” Cruz said at a press conference with House Republicans on the CR that the House is set to pass Friday that continues to fund the government through the end of the year and defunds Obamacare.
Asked if he would filibuster, Cruz said he would use “any procedural means necessary.”
Cruz drew fire Thursday, after the House plan was announced, for suggesting that there was no chance the bill would get through in the Democratic controlled Senate.
“Harry Reid will no doubt try to strip the defund language from the continuing resolution, and right now he likely has the votes to do so,” Cruz said in a statement Thursday. “At that point, House Republicans must stand firm, hold their ground, and continue to listen to the American people.”
Several House Republicans accused him of giving up the fight, but Cruz deflected questions about that criticism Thursday, saying, “it is very easy in Washignton to make this about personalities, to make this about people. This is not about any of us, this is about the American people.”

Hope something good comes from all this.
Obamacare will cause married people to separate to avoid the full family extra high tax for having a family income.
One person may make 8k and the other more. If they separate the 8k gets stuff closer to free. If the 8k stays married they fine the whole family thousands more.
Meanwhile the whole thing is unaffordable and if you read into this, like welfare this will cause break up of the family and marriage to get a financial break. Very sad.

The filibuster appears nowhere in Robert’s Rules. It is a legislative concept peculiar to the US Senate. So, Robert’s has no rules on filibuster. That said, I believe that the speaker may “hand off” to another speaker who he/she recognizes. That may not be true. The purpose, of course, is to totally tie up/stop any further business as long as the speaker holds the floor.
How are we going to get "the votes 'for it'," if someone doesn't at least attempt to "go for it?"
I frequently am told I am "too much of an optimist," I should be more "pragmatic."
If our founders weren't optimists, we never would have fought the Revolutionary War and gained our freedom to begin with!

This is a marvelous man. And I do marvel.
Will we remember, in the near future, what his goal is, when he or any other real conservative must make moves to attract the center and also Libertarians BEFORE there is ever any hope for earning the number of votes required to seat a conservative, as President of the United States.
I pray we coalesce EARLY and stick. What was a disaster last time brought us a loss, but was a win for the GOPE.....which means a win for the Left.
