Rush Limbaugh practically invented what Levin does on radio and has been a HUGELY influential and popular conservative talking head long before anyone ever heard of Levin, but you don't see some starring eyed conservatives worship Rush as an all-wise, all-knowing, infallible constitutional authority -- deciding that NAFTA MUST be a good thing, solely because Rush endorsed it, or that we MUST vote for Rick Perry for President, solely because Rush likes him.
Maybe Levin replaced Ann Coulter as the beloved-heroic-conservative-champion-that-you-dare-not-disagree-with-or-youre-America-hating-socialist-scum? It's as good a theory as any, since Ann worship has fallen out of favor and SOMEONE had to fill the void. Kinda creepy if her fan club became enamored with Levin though. I doubt they'll be posting pictures about how "hot" he is, unless we're talking about Ann's fans in the Log Cabin GOP.
A Palinista here not long ago awarded me an A in PDS for making fun of his cult back in 2011. I more than anyone was fascinated with them and their behavior.
I recall a favorite was early 2011 when a Palinista posted comment like ‘I would walk over a bed of hot coals for that woman’ on a ‘Palin tells Obama to go to hell’ (or something like that) post thread.
My theory is this unhealthy worship of different public figure individuals as Messiah figures is another symptom of fatalism, like online/Democratic versions of Jewish Zealots who attacked the ROmans after waiting for a Messiah warrior to lead them, they were waiting for another another Maccabees to lead them and then went anyway and wiped out the Jewish state w the 2nd Temple destroyed.
In this modern case its more internet,etc. No personal risk.
