As in cockroaches. But vermin is nothing new in a building that is 213 years old--and roaches aren't the worst of it...

I’m more concerned about the two-legged vermin in the White House.

The next pResident is probably going to spend her first year in a hotel while the White Hut is fumigated.

I liked this one:
During Mr. Obama's 2008 campaign, one reporter traveling on Mr. Obamas campaign bus (or maybe it was a plane) commented that 'It stinks in there...(pointing to the vehicle), smells bad.' Afterwards he was never seen again.

Re: Mice:
"Peanut butter, bacon and cheese were the favored baits." Those may be the baits preferred by humans, but the mice prefer tootsie rolls.

I grew up in a house that was so old that the lights were hung from pipes originally installed for gas lighting. Didn't have any roaches or mice. My mom made sure of that.
If vermin don't have a source of food, then you won't have vermin. Making sure that there are no crumbs or garbage around for vermin to eat is Step I. The cleanliness of the White House is under the control of the White House.

Never heard of tootsie rolls though They are a small, chewy confectionery that is usually flavored chocolate, and comes in a small paper wrapper.

Some pretty funny stuff in the article. Evidently things haven't been this bad since Jimmy Carter was Pres.
None was more frustrated than Jimmy Carter, who battled mice from the start of his administration. To his dismay, he found the bureaucracy unresponsive. GSA, responsible for inside the White House, insisted it had eliminated all "inside" mice and contended any new mice must have come from the outside, meaning, the New York Times reported at the time, they were "the responsibility of the Interior Department." But Interior, wrote the Times, "demurred" because the mice were now inside the White House.

If vermin don't have a source of food, then you won't have vermin. So true. Even crumbs on the shelves of the pantry will attract pests. Once you have rid your home of a pest, the only solution to prevent them from returning is to clean up whatever is luring them, and then thoroughly wash the shelves, walls and floors with a strong cleanser to get rid of the food scent. It works for everything from ants and moths to mice (and probably rats, but I've never had rats.)
