Matt Drudge calls Dianne Feinstein a 'fascist' for narrowing the definition of a journalist
Washington Examiner ^ | 9/13/2013 | Charlie Spiering

Matt Drudge called Sen. Dianne Feinstein a fascist after the California Democrat suggested that only "professional" journalists deserved protection under a new media shield law.

"I can't support it if everyone who has a blog has a special privilege … or if Edward Snowden were to sit down and write this stuff, he would have a privilege. I'm not going to go there," Feinstein said during Thursday's hearing.

Drudge reacted to Feinstein's comments on Twitter after stories of the media shield law were highlighted on his Drudge Report website.

"Comments from Sen. Feinstein yesterday on who's a reporter were disgusting," he wrote, adding that a "17-year old 'blogger' is as important as Wolf Blitzer."

"Fascist!" he added.

The bill on the Senate floor will cover journalists who have an “employment relationship” with a news outlet.

Drudge pointed out that a federal judge once ruled that he was "not a reporter, a journalist, or a newsgatherer."

"Millions of readers a day come for cooking recipes??!" he asked incredulously.

"Gov't declaring who qualifies for freedom of press in digital age is ridiculous!" Drudge added. "It belongs to anyone for any reason. No amendment necessary."

Freedom of the press for all—but no special ‘media shield’ laws.

There are plenty of reasons that she could be considered a fascist.

Congratulations Matt.

I am very proud to read Drudgereport first thing every day.

Our media is growing, and those seeking these limits are trying to hold it back.

Those who seek limits will in the end be the biggest losers.

Yup, you'll either be certified by the state to disseminate their approved message, or you'll be sent to the gulags to think on your sin of non-conformity...

Nazi Germany lives in the US government...

Actually , the term ‘facist’ has much more of an economic/resource ownership/ control definition.

I think Matt means TOTALITARIAN—it fits a lot better.

ALL the most important journalists today have zero formal instruction.

Matt worked at 7-11 and the as a gift-shop clerk.

Now he’s bigger than the New York Times and THEY ALL KNOW IT.

you know who pays tuition at the Columbia School for Journalism?

CONSUMMATE IDIOTS.

As power centralizes, many things will be defined by the state. Those outside the states definitions will be marginalized or . . .

There is no such thing as THE PRESS in the sense that term is used by elitist Progressives today — some sort of elite group whose members are allowed preferential treatment under law. In the Constitutional sense, “the press” is a technological device for disseminating information.

One cannot be a “member” of the press. One can only have access to a press.

Any device which enables one to state and publicize one’s views is a “press,” whether it be moveable type, offset, TV, radio, or the Internet. We all have free access to “the press,” meaning we have the right to pay any provider who wishes to sell us access to publicize our ideas.

In this regard, no CBS anchor has anymore claim to special treatment for being part of “the press” than does any blogger.

“Freedom of the press” applies equally to every citizen seeking to use a technological device to record and publicize his or her opinion.
