Making the case for intervention in Syria to a war-weary American public, Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that the strike will be "unbelievably small" a comment that has already earned him relentless mocking in its immediate aftermath. "Were not going to war. We will not have people at risk in that way," Kerry said during a press conference in London with UK Foreign Secretary William Hague, according to a transcript released by the State Department.
"We will be able to hold Bashar Assad accountable without engaging in troops on the ground or any other prolonged kind of effort in a very limited, very targeted, very short-term effort that degrades his capacity to deliver chemical weapons without assuming responsibility for Syrias civil war.
"That is exactly what were talking about doing unbelievably small, limited kind of effort."
Kerry's comments are a microcosm of the poor job the Obama administration has done trying to explain the rationale for intervention. On one hand, they realize they are dealing with a "war-weary" public skeptical of engaging in another Middle East conflict.
On the other hand, Kerry has made repeated comments casting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as the greatest villain of the 21st century, in response to an alleged chemical-weapons attack against his own people on Aug. 21. The U.S. says the attack killed 1,429 people, including 426 children.

Guess they’ll be about the size of rice kernels in John Freakin’ Kerry’s butt.
As small as his few brain cells that function, ya mean?
It’s that tongue-darting that irritates me....
He must be hitting Ta-RAY-za’s gin-soaked raisin stash, making stupid comments like that.
“War is Hell.”
Some famous American said that.
Skin being stretched by ever-elongating nose?
The gang that couldn’t lie straight....
Yeah, what is that tongue action? You expect him to nail a fly on the other side of the room.
No...his nose has gotten longer.
Just be careful. It could lead to blindness.
I’m as distressed as anybody about use of chemical weapons and all that.
But, what the heck is the purpose of getting involved in a civil war in that part of the world? Who are the good guys?
If we do a cruise missile attack, will things abate for a few days, then the war just resumes as it was before?
What is the big difference between targeting civilians with chemical weapons, and the numerous civilians who have been killed with conventional weapons in that war?
When you consider dissembling with Benghazi, Fast and Furious, IRS, etc. why is this event the one event in which we can totally trust what the administration in saying???
Is Assad quaking in his boots at Obama drawing a red line, then saying he didn’t draw a red line, the world drew a red line? But if the world really drew a red line, why aren’t good liberals such as Obama and Kerry taking this up with their favorite institution, the UN????
So many unanswered questions, such as I have mentioned above. I doubt Obama will answer these when he speaks to the nation.
Are they going to egg Assad’s palace, or toilet paper it? Maybe light a bag of dog doo doo on the palace porch?
This is a joke or satire, right?
He didn’t really say that, did he?
Kerry: “Look here, Aasad, if you don’t give up your chemical weapons, we’re going to launch an unbelievably small, limited attack against you!”
No....really......I believe it.
