Power grid vulnerabilities are finally garnering some attention by government officials.

An electrical grid joint drill simulation is being planned in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Thousands of utility workers, FBI agents, anti-terrorism experts, governmental agencies, and more than 150 private businesses are involved in the November power grid drill.

The SHIELD Act, which is stalled in Congress, is the first serious piece of legislation in many years to attempt to address the vulnerabilities of the power grid in.

Shall we also expect a national "drill" and governmental shut-down of the nation's major bridges, roads, and infrastructure for "examination" because as we know, this system is crumbling as well and "vulnerable to attack"?

Articulately stated. Your early life's experience was a great, "off-the-grid" upbringing that will serve you well. "Progress" and "room-service" modern life has created a population of vulnerable, ill-prepared, dependent invalids in a great sense.

Interesting this game is being played during or near Winter. Not surprising though. Only worry is that this is the obama crowd doing the playing. We’ll beat ‘em back if they get reckless and open portholes!

I’ve had similar thoughts. Since everything with these people is political, I’m wondering what their angle is with that series.

The article says the exercise will be a simulation. However many comments on the thread are leading me to believe that some here are concerned that there may be actual power outages. Is that the consensus here, that the exercise will actually turn out to be a real grid down situation? How would that happen? Would the government actually order the power companies to shut down and they would do it? These are not sarcastic questions, but real ones.
