Power grid vulnerabilities are finally garnering some attention by government officials.
An electrical grid joint drill simulation is being planned in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Thousands of utility workers, FBI agents, anti-terrorism experts, governmental agencies, and more than 150 private businesses are involved in the November power grid drill.
The SHIELD Act, which is stalled in Congress, is the first serious piece of legislation in many years to attempt to address the vulnerabilities of the power grid in.

The disaster drill is being described as a crisis practice unlike anything the real power grid has ever experienced. The GridEX II drill Nov. 13-14 will focus primarily on how governments will react if the electrical grid fails and, for instance, the food supply chain collapses.
When I prepared [for calamity], I took myself back to the days I spent in my grandmother's house with no electric power and they lived well. The majority of our population has never lived in those times so they can't draw from that experience to recreate it.
Articulately stated. Your early life's experience was a great, "off-the-grid" upbringing that will serve you well. "Progress" and "room-service" modern life has created a population of vulnerable, ill-prepared, dependent invalids in a great sense.
I hope you are in better condition with preps than you were before Sandy.

Thanks, Travis McGee. Realistic, and unsettling after reading this current article.

I’ve had similar thoughts. Since everything with these people is political, I’m wondering what their angle is with that series.
“Warm weather is more survivable than cold, especially at this latitude. How many will die if these fools interrupt power in a time of year parts of this country are often at temperatures ranging from the single digits to -30?”
“I was thinking the same thing — half of the continent will be depending on electricity for heat in November. Seems like this drill would be better scheduled in May or September.”
“Does anyone in charge have common sense???”
The article says the exercise will be a simulation. However many comments on the thread are leading me to believe that some here are concerned that there may be actual power outages. Is that the consensus here, that the exercise will actually turn out to be a real grid down situation? How would that happen? Would the government actually order the power companies to shut down and they would do it? These are not sarcastic questions, but real ones.
