CNN Guest: Why Should ‘Appointed’ Sen. Tim Scott Have Been Invited to MLK Anniversary?

A panel discussion on CNN’s The Lead examined the impact that Wednesday’s speeches and celebrations surrounding the 50th anniversary of the civil rights movement’s march on Washington D.C. When asked why so few Republicans attended the rally and none spoke, the panel displayed a surprising lack of knowledge as to why that was the case. When asked why Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), the only sitting African-American U.S. Senator, was not invited to speak, one guest displayed a measure of disdain for the “appointed” Senator.

A discussion about the impact of the Martin Luther King Jr. “I Have a Dream” speech anniversary event veered into politics when the guests began to wonder why so few Republicans attended the event and none spoke.

National Public Radio host Michel Martin wondered why former President George H. W. Bush, whom she said “had a very strong record on civil rights,” was not in attendance at the Anniversary. Both Bush and his son, former President George W. Bush, declined to attend due to the former president’s ongoing recovery from a recent surgery.

When asked why the only sitting black senator in the upper chamber of Congress was also not in attendance, USA Today columnist DeWayne Wickham said there was no real reason for him to be there in the first place.

“And he should have been invited why?” Wickham asked. “He should have been invited to speak for what reason?”

“He’s one of 50 Senators,” Wickham said. “And he’s appointed not elected.”

Scott said that he was not invited to speak, but added that the day should be about remembering MLK and Rep. John Lewis (D-GA). And there are 100 U.S. Senators.

There are only fifty or so who are not 100% in support of the destruction of America. Could be that’s what he’s thinking.

Jesse Jackson was so fast when MLK had been shot, he had to have been waiting for it. Got blood all over him. Yet, he should really be on the other side of the motel.

Aren’t there 100 voting senators?

Obviously you overlooked my /s. Pansy Graham is blatantly missing, so that makes 99 or 49 or 114. Depends on whose math you use. :)

You are spot on.

No one mentions any of this, though. Not even the Repubs.

Shame on the Republicans for not showing up, regardless whether they spoke or not. They sit back and allow them to be “not invited”.

Better yet- they could have organized their own MLK day. This would have been a perfect opportunity to bring out the true history of how Republicans have been on the side of black population from the beginning. The Black Republicans/and conservative blacks would have come....and I know MLK’s daughter would have given an excellent speech that would have made her father proud.

The Republicans allow the Dems to be their whipping boys...so sick of the gutless wonders on the R side...

I remember listening to Hannity last year and a black conservative got on radio and said the R’s need to get the message out about the true history of Republicans and civil rights, etc. Blacks have been so brain-washed with the Dem version for 50 yrs.

You need only to list the entities that were responsible for this ‘rally’. It was a bunch of ‘Progressives’. This was a DNC rally truth be told.

How ‘bout celebrating the fact that a black man had risen far enough and society had healed well enough that that black man could be appointed to the United States Senate from South Carolina - deep in the heart of segregationist old Dixie, the first state to secede in the Civil War.......

I suppose it escapes the perpetually aggrieved that America elected a black man to the presidency. Twice.

Or, that we have a black U.S. Attorney General.

Or, that we've had a black Secretary of State.

Or, that several Governors have been blacks.

No, nothing's changed since the days of water cannons, police dogs, white only water fountains, and segregated lunch counters.

Lord, I get tired of these people and their race baiting.

Clarance Thomas should’ve been there.

He doesn’t even attend the State of the Union bullshit that the doofus Obama spews out, because he knows it’s all lies.

I believe you’re thinking of MLK’s niece, who is a rational woman who frequently is on FNC and expresses her detest for the black racism merchants.

Her cousins, MLK’s daughter and son, spoke at that dispicable rally and showed their racial bias along with all of the other race pimps.

DeWayne Wickham has been the designated person that can speak for all blacks at USA Toady for some time.

I’ve read his “columns” with a combination of amusement, amazement, and nausea for years....

Yep, that rather salient point is lost on them. The key to the dems is power... however and in whatever pretzel you have to twist your BS to get it. Including “appointing” a half-black non-citizen muslim marxist who doubles as a true socio/psychopathic narcissistic queer dumbass as present__dent. Oh, and a constitutional scholar so they say LOL.
