FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) -- Army Maj. Nidal Hasan was convicted Friday in the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, a shocking assault against American troops at home by one of their own who said he opened fire on fellow soldiers to protect Muslim insurgents abroad.
The Army psychiatrist acknowledged carrying out the attack in a crowded waiting room where unarmed troops were making final preparations to deploy to Afghanistan and Iraq. Thirteen people were killed and more than 30 wounded.
Because Hasan never denied his actions, the court-martial was always less about a conviction than it was about ensuring he received the death penalty. From the beginning of the case, the federal government has sought to execute Hasan, believing that any sentence short of a lethal injection would deprive the military and the families of the dead of the justice they have sought for nearly four years.
A jury of 13 high-ranking military officers reached a unanimous guilty verdict in about seven hours. Hasan had no visible reaction as the verdict was read. In the next phase of the trial, they must all agree to give Hasan the death penalty before he can be sent to the military's death row, which has just five other prisoners. If they do not agree, the 42-year-old could spend the rest of his life in prison.

He could have an "accident" - prison justice.
If he is in solitary, poison in the food?
Would he still be a martyr?
If he "kills himself", would he be a martyr?
If he dies of a "heart attack" - martyr? At the very least, give him a picture of Helen Thomas and say the other virgins are not as pretty as Helen.
He really said that?!
If he didn't, he'll get around to it.
“Stick him in Super Max in CO...”
24 hours a day, never out for ANY reason except to keep him from dying, so he can serve a longer life sentence. Other than that, no human contact of any kind. Ever! No spiritual leader. No koran. No directional arrows on the floor for locating Mecca. No halal food, just regular prison fare. No news from the outside for him and no news to the outside about him. He is a non-person and should cease to exist the day the door slams shut on him for the last time.
If you think he is a madman now, just wait awhile.
I have gut feeling that you are very much correct in that Obama and his enabling ilk have already had meetings on how to get this guy off and on his way to a Muslim haven.
Would that be argued as being "double jeopardy" or would civilian court be the first trial and not "double jeopardy" because this trial was a military trial?
Somethin' like that...
I say go for execution. This man murdered people who were in the service of their country. How much can we tolerate?
And while they’re at it, they can execute Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Ramzi bin alShibh, the two scum involved in 9/11.
Good news is it will only take one rope-—one for him and one for his lawyer.
They’re going to do that anyway.
Cover him in pork grease and fill the syringe with pork fat.
It’s been lost from the conversation but I remember early-on when Needle Noodle said he’d been ordered to deploy also to the ME. That was the real reason he shot up the processing center. He’s a slider who didn’t want to go. All that later mumbojumbo about Jihad, etc., defending mooslimes was just designed to make himself sound like some kind of warrior and maybe sneak in a couple extra virgins. Bottom line is he’s a snivelling dodger and he ain’t getting bleep for virgins.
Unfortunately the ACLU or the human rights org’s will step in and yell about cruel and unusual punishment. Any other president would tell them to go pound sand but Obamination will go along if not pardon and deport him.
McVeigh didn’t drop his appeals. He gottem all. Janet ElReno filled out the paper work in each case and they put him away in eight years.
The ACLU should have no standing in a military court. Just my opinion, I have no idea how that works with a Court Martial.
The clown doesn't intend on stepping down. He'll be doing an executive order making himself lifetime ruler.
The ACLU thinks it runs the US - some dumb Democrat will probably think that “Okay, makes sense” ....
Let’s get on with the sentencing. It’s already been four years too long.
As much as I believe he should get the death penalty, I think the Muslims would go crazy and start giving out death penalties like candy to any troops of ours.
Its got to be a humiliating death, else he become a martyr.
Like "tripped over his shoestring", laughed so hard watching TV, that he had an embolism that burst, etc.
Should his body be sent back "home"? Or, just his ashes. Or not returned at all and given a plot in poor mans cemetery with no marker.
Before death, get him (by water board?) to renounce jihad, Islam, etc.
Wouldn't look so much the hero martyr then.
If Muslim Brotherhood demands his release, doctor a tape to make it sound like he is renouncing he ways and wants to stay in America because yada, yada, yada.....something to make the crazy Muslims to totally lose their cool.
What am I saving? They have no "cool" to lose.
Anyone notice the Friday timing, the verdict announced at the end of the weekly new cycle?
The WH hoping for emotions to die down over the weekend?
Anyway, UCMJ mandates automatic appeal of any capital case. This will drag on for years; Hasan may not even get busted to private E-1 just yet.
Let him rot in solitary until he goes nuts (I repeat myself) then croaks on his own.
