This week, the State Department announced that, in "an important symbol of our enduring friendship with Benin," construction has begun on a new $178 million embassy complex in the small West African nation, a neighbor of Togo and Nigeria. As is often the case in the construction of new U.S. diplomatic facilities, the plans include a number of "sustainable" features including solar panels, rainwater harvesting, wastewater reuse, and LED lighting. The complex will cover 8.8 acres, and will include:
a chancery/office building, a support annex, a residence for the U.S. Marine detachment, a warehouse, a utility building, a recreational facility, and multiple access pavilions. When completed, the new complex will provide approximately 150 embassy employees with a secure, state-of-the-art, environmentally-sustainable workplace.

Good frickin’ grief!
200 million pissed into the wind.
Features including special loading docks for the transfer of arm... er, I mean "goods"... from one truck to another truck.
Meanwhile, back in the real world, 99% of Americans wouldn't notice if Benin disappeared tomorrow. Today, they couldn't put it out on an unlabeled map.
Heck, I don't think I could, and I'm pretty good with geography.
Unless it’s a disguised military jump-off base, this is a huge waste of money. Follow that money—does it go to local contractors, and if so, who are their contacts to the US government? Obama relatives? Or does it go to US contractors using US fair wage labor? I would think a decent, protected embassy could be built for roughly 1/5 the price in Africa.
Have you ever been in Benin? Great place for our dear leader to take the wife and kids on their next vacation. They have some of the finest grass huts this side of the Nile. Wookie can put on nothing but a grass skirt and feel right at home.
Why do we even spend $5 - let alone millions and millions - on a collection of folks so useless even our government had to create a “Ministry of Useless Marshmallow Majors” in order to give them gainful employment.
Grass skirts come with a boob belt ? I ain’t gonna look !.....:o)
Because Zero is running out of places to repay his cronies.
