As administration officials mull a response to the turmoil in Egypt, conservative foreign policy experts and commentators remain divided over the question of U.S. aid and how to deal with the military following its takeover and the recent bloodshed.
Those who favor continuing aid cite the need to protect key U.S. regional interests, topped by a secure Suez Canal and the Egypt-Israel peace treatyinterests more likely to be safeguarded by the Egyptian military than the Muslim Brotherhood administration it overthrew on July 3.

In the case of Israel we could actually get a lot closer to them. We could park a carrier group off their coast in the event they face a major attack. Just paying them to keep the carrier group supplied would amount to millions in trade. At the same time every smart governor in the country could lead trade missions to Israel to open up two way trade.
And along side that, most people forget the fact that most of the biggest tech and medical advances have come from Israel in recent years.
If America ever returns to being a friend of our allies.
Assuming Israel is willing to wait that long.
Really, any “civil War” in Egypt will be the islamists against everybody else who declines an islamist caliphate. That's not so much a civil war as it is a war on radicals & terrorists. The USA is supposedly waging such a war.
Obama/Clinton are TERRIBLE partners to have in such a conflict. Even the Saudis are POed at Obama/Clinton. Recall, they loved the 2 Bushs.
China & Russia are rising. America & the West are in decline. I think Egypt's military is ready for a sponsor change. I don't blame them.
As for Israel, she is well used to 60+ years of instability on her borders. That muzzies are killing muzzies, for the most part, will not significantly affect Israel.
I can't decide whether Obama just hates Israel's existence as the Europeans do, or he's like a kid left alone for 5 years in the control room of a nuclear power plant - meltdown.
If we pull out, there is the risk that the Muslim Brotherhood will win a civil war. Do you want Al Qaeda’s parent to win?
The two sides in Egypt are the Military, backed by pro-Western people and on the other side Salafists and the Muslim Brotherhood, the parent of Al Qaeda.
How is there a question? We need to support the military.
PS. CAIR is Muslim Brotherhood USA. They are no different than the German-American Bund in 1941, except that we refuse to arrest the traitors.
The military is led by Islamists now. This is the same military that stood by and allowed the MB to get into power in the first place too, when their generals weren’t appointed by Morsi. We need to fund neither side, and we need to stop others from funding them.
The European Union is actually holding emergency meetings over Egypt because of the risk to the Suez Canal. Of course, the EU now thinks they own the Suez Canal, but that’s beside the point. Demonstrates that neither side can be trusted in Egypt.
Why would the military pay to fix christian church's if they are Islamist? I am not so sure the Military are the bad guys here.
That may prove to be an empty promise.
Consider that the military could have prevented these attacks in the first place, as well.
The majority in Egypt are still of the type that chanted “To Jerusalem we go, martyrs in the millions” in Tahrir Square back in 2011; one of the motivation behind the coup has reportedly been that Morsi was moving too slowly against Israel. Tamarod is actively pursuing the end of the 1979 peace treaty, as well.
I am not saying you are wrong. Though they just made the promise to help rebuild the christian church's a few days ago. The chanting was the Brotherhood groups. or are you suggesting the brotherhood is part of the military?
The best place to get real news about Egypt it the ongoing Live Egypt thread - dedicated newshounds, freeper translations from Arabic, etc. Been ongoing since June 30 or thereabouts.

Obama wrote in one of his books about the winds of change, he would side with Muslims.
I can't remember the exact quote. There is a post out there with Obama's face turned sideways and his quote is included.
Rand Slams Congress for Funding Egypt's Generals: 'How Does Your Conscience Feel Now?'Sen. Rand Paul is hammering his fellow senators for keeping billions in financial aid flowing to Egypt's military -- even as Cairo's security forces massacre anti-government activists.
