Boyd Marcus, a longtime Republican adviser and strategist in Virginia who has worked for former Gov. James S. Gilmore III and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, threw his support behind Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe on Tuesday.
Mr. Marcus, who will also serve as a consultant to Mr. McAuliffes campaign, said in a statement hes supporting Mr. McAuliffe because he believes the Democrat will work with both parties to advance economic growth.
Virginia needs an experienced businessman who will put the practical needs of our people ahead of political ideology, Mr. Marcus said. Ive never before supported any Democrat, but this election Terry is the clear choice for mainstream conservatives.
Mr. Marcus most recently worked on the campaign of Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling, who ultimately opted against an independent run for governor after Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II took the Republican nomination. Mr. Bolling has not officially given his endorsement in the race but has been much more magnanimous toward Mr. McAuliffe than Mr. Cuccinelli in his public statements.
The endorsement also means the end of the Republican public affairs firm of Marcus & Allen LLC: Mr. Marcuss partner, Ray Allen, says hes buying Mr. Marcus shares of the 20-year-old business, The Associated Press reported.

No surprize here. GOP strategists and consultants are all libs. That’s why the party has become demlite.
McAuliffe is toilet slime. What does that tell you about Rinos like Marcus?
Same thing was said about the liberal Romney. His business acumen would save the country’s fiscal problems.
Someone remind me how the party filled with a few thousand of this guy gets ‘fixed’ I asked this on the other thread and had no takers. I wonder why.
Boyd Marcus - member of the world’s oldest profession.
It’s all becoming more obvious that Republicans are not even hiding the fact that they are just the same as Democrats.
What a load of horse poop, have you ever seen Democrats compromise?
The only way to fix it is for a seething, raging mass of Tea Party sentiment voters to create a voter tsunami in 2014 and rout all the RINOs up for re-election.
These GOP ‘strategists’ like Marcus et al are all money whores. Pundits are money whores. What else could explain things like Mary Matalin marrying James Carville. Each one with no principles it seems decided the pair would have both ends covered and their individual ‘numbers’ would go up - more money.
Remaining GOP Congress members have to be presented with an undeniable fact that despite what Rove, Rubio, McCain, Graham, McConnell, Boehner, et al say, they can’t ever get that elusive Hispanic vote, and that they cannot sustain without the support of the conservatives in this country.
Romney DID have significant business experience, and would have been a better President than the Clown.
McAuliffe is a leech.
But then you have a bunch of elected officials being undermined at every turn bu this guy’s friends...from aides to janitors...all running and leaking to the media if not open sabotage.
Elect those tra party types that are worth it and let them form their own party. If they ‘gotta’ run as pubs so be it. But get out once in.
Virginia desperately needs a conservative who supports the culture of life, and who will put the practical needs of our people ahead of political ideology.
Perhaps Mr. Marcus has lost his moral compass. Terry has questionable qualifications as a "businessman," but excellent qualifications and experience with creating chaos by consistently supporting the ideological policies of the Democrat Party.
Just who does Mr. Marcus think he is fooling?
McAuliffe is a “businessman” my big toe.
I get criticized for being a Libertarian as if the Republican Party had anything to to with constitutional conservatism. Wake up. The party of John McCain and Linda Graham is now, officially, the party of Terry McAuliffe
Their compass points to influence, power and money, not morals. That’s just window dressing for the yahoos, to the men behind the curtains.
There invariably is a reason such blatant strivers avoided the public eye in the first place, though. That reason likely explains the distance from or even disdain for morality in the form of social conservatism so frequently exhibited.
He started a small bank which was really a front for laundering slush fund money, then it got investigated and he disentangled himself.
He then took over another bank which was used as a front for union slush funds, was investigated and then went bankrupt.
Then he put money in a telecom firm prior to the bubble, which went bankrupt and was investigated by the SEC.
Then he got involved in a "green" company which took lots of government funds and went bankrupt.
If he qualifies as a businessman, who doesn't?
His record in the “business” world is only slightly worse than Donald Trump’s, lol. The Donald just kept more money.

The GOPe has a great racket going; withhold their support if their candidate loses the nomination, then blame the conservative's "extremism" if the Democrat wins the election.
Heads, I win. Tails, you lose.
That is why I am not changing my party registration. I want to be able to vote in the primaries against GOPe candidates.
