Members of Congress are split over whether the U.S. should cut off military aid to Egypt in light of the deadly violence there.
Democratic leaders have generally supported the president's decision to continue the aid, but Rep. Keith Ellison wants to halt it. The Minnesota Democrat tells ABC's "This Week" that the U.S. should "cut off aid but engage in intense diplomacy."
Ellison says aid should be suspended until Egypt ends "the bloodshed in the street" and sets up a path toward democracy. Ellison is the first Muslim elected to Congress and is co-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

No aid will be cut off. The issue is whether the aid will come from the US, or from the Saudis.
I’m not a big fan of giving Egypt money to begin with (even the so-called ‘good’ Egyptians are organizing a petition to end the peace treaty with Israel). But it shouldn’t be tied to this.
You miss the point. The aid is from the GCC.
The aid is about securing the eastern flank of the Arab League to assure economic prosperity.

Tough one. An Egypt dominated by the MB would definitely not be friendly to US and/or Israeli interests (often one and the same). On the other hand, support of the military’s efforts to suppress the MB will bite us sooner or later (e.g. what happened with Mossadeq vs the Shah in Iran, to cite just 1 example ). Goes to show what happens when the US gets mixed up in the Old World’s affairs. The Old World has always been a source of grief and evil for the New World. But our leaders never learn this lesson.

Maybe, just maybe muslim Ellison should ask why Obama has changed his mind on cutting off funds for the Egyptians and their army. Maybe he should go back and take a look at the news reports on the day Mursi was taken prisoner by the army and what they caught him with.
