One of the state's top lobbyists says sources are telling him that State Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Ft. Worth) who is a sudden national figure in Democratic ranks due to her 11 hour filibuster to kill a late term abortion bill, has decided to run or governor in 2014, 1200 WOAI news reports.
"If she does run, I think it will probably be the most exciting race for Democrats since Ann Richards in 1990," Harold Cook, who is a democratic strategist, told 1200 WOAI news.
Davis has said that she will run for either governor or re-election to the state senate next year. She has raised a lot of money, but her campaign war chest pales besides that of likely Republican nominee Greg Abbott, who has raised more than $23 million.
Cook says he suspects that Davis has been told that big money Democratic donors will help her make up money gap with Abbott and make sure she is competitive financially.
"If she indeed makes that decision, they will guarantee that she has a chance to win, or she would not have made it," Cook said.
Davis says she will officially make her decision by Labor Day.
Analysts say Abbott is an overwhelming favorite to win against any candidate the Democrats will put up against him, but a Davis candidacy would demonstrate that Democrats have the ability to run a statewide race. A Davis candidacy would also energize the party's base, which has been demoralized over twenty years of bad candidates like Bill White and Ron Kirk, 'great hopes' that sputtered like Dan Morales and Henry Cisneros, and a lack of a 'bench' where the candidates of the future are born.
Good grief....ping.....
Lived in San Antonio for 6 years. Still have friends there.
Democrats want very badly to turn Texas blue and they are working very hard at it, with the likes of the Castro brothers.
Do not underestimate the liberal machine. Hubby and I were talking about Davis just the other night. He thinks she is enjoying her “15minutes” so to speak and couldn’t win state wide election. I think If she gets the democratic nomination then the election will come down to the current demographics in Texas..
The entitlement crowd will vote for anyone with a D next to their name, just look at who we have in the white house. Hubby thinks he is right. I hope he is, but I fear I am.
And her fate will be the same as the sister of Stephen Colbert’s sister who was a darling of the left and they poured millions into her campaign and gave her daily praise on MSNBC and in the New York Times...she went on to lose by 9 points against Mark Sanford. The liberals don’t seem to realize that just because a candidate is loved by New York times, MSNBC and the Washington establishment, doesn’t mean they’re are not toxic to a red state electorate.
Throwing poop on her campaign will be fun
What’s sauce for the goose......
Exactly. They have zero idea of what life is like outside of New York City, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles.
Everyone gave to Allen west. People can give to whom they want.
Homos buying a homosexual mayor who pushes the homosexual agenda on persons out of their community stinks.
If it weren’t for one stupid remark by Clayton Williams that the SRM played 24/7, she would had zero terms as TX governor.
Indeed.
What shall she use as a campaign slogan? “No fetus can defeat us?”
Adding a few more to get their input. Snowball in hell chance for her.
Cow Pies!
I hope you’re right. I don’t trust the ones who will be backing her. They want Texas mighty bad! We must fight to keep it from happening!
Maybe Kermit Gosnell can be her spiritual advisor... since he won’t be put to death, he has lots of time on his hands.
He might have to introduce himself, since she claims to not know anything about the trial and what he did.
Homos buying a homosexual mayor who pushes the homosexual agenda on persons out of their community stinks.
That doesn't seemed to have worked out very well for J.C. Penney. Fortunately for politicians, most don't face much genuine competition.
I don't remember She With The Chrome Hair having a Khmer Rouge attitude about the unborn as Davis does.
Indeed.
