The crucial intercept that prompted the U.S. government to close embassies in 22 countries was a conference call between al Qaedas senior leaders and representatives of several of the groups affiliates throughout the region.
The intercept provided the U.S. intelligence community with a rare glimpse into how al Qaedas leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, manages a global organization that includes affiliates in Africa, the Middle East, and southwest and southeast Asia.
Several news outlets reported Monday on an intercepted communication last week between Zawahiri and Nasser al-Wuhayshi, the leader of al Qaedas affiliate based in Yemen. But The Daily Beast has learned that the discussion between the two al Qaeda leaders happened in a conference call that included the leaders or representatives of the top leadership of al Qaeda and its affiliates calling in from different locations, according to three U.S. officials familiar with the intelligence. All told, said one U.S. intelligence official, more than 20 al Qaeda operatives were on the call.
To be sure, the CIA had been tracking the threat posed by Wuhayshi for months. An earlier communication between Zawahiri and Wuhayshi delivered through a courier was picked up last month, according to three U.S. intelligence officials. Never let a crisis go to waste.
my friend Baghdad Bob says this
story is very believable.
Total BS...
Al Quaeda conference call? Did someone have a powerpoint presentation? Were some of the participants IM’ing each other on the side (”can you believe this crap?”)? Were minutes sent out afterwards? I call BS.
The call probably originated from The White House.
Your friend Baghdad Bob really thinks they had a conference call?
Did they use Gotomeeting?
Sorry, ain’t believin’ any Obamash*t any mo.
Actually, never did.
Obama is slimel.
As is his entire staff.
I read this and I think it’s BS. Just made up out of thin air.
I do support the closing and suggest we pull out of every middle eastern country except for whatever number of people it takes to ship every drop of Iraqi oil here. Take 20% of the profits and distribute it to everyone thst fought in Iraq and Afganistan. Develop our own resources and let all these middle eastern countries fight each other.
I’d make it clear that in the event of any attack in the US or any of our embassies that Mecca would be destroyed.
Enough fiddling with these idiots.
Does Obama think we're that dumb??
