On Wednesday and Thursday, law school graduates aspiring to practice in the Commonwealth gathered in Boston and Springfield to take the 16-hour bar exam, broken into several parts. During the morning portion of the test Thursday, recent graduate of the University of Michigan Law School Iman Abdulrazzak was handed a note from an exam proctor asking her to remove her headscarf.
As many Muslim women do, Abdulrazzak wore a hijab, covering her head and chest, during the exam held at the Western New England University School of Law.
The note, written in capitalized block letters read, "Headwear may not be worn during the examination without prior written approval. We have no record of you being given prior written approval. Please remove your headwear and place it under your seat for the afternoon session."
While "headwear including hats, scarves, caps, hoods, bandanas, visors, costume headgear or sunglasses" are prohibited from the examination room, religious headwear is permitted. "Headwear that has been granted prior approval by the Board of Bar Examiners for religious or medical reasons only," according to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners' security policy.
...
Executive Director of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners Marilyn Wellington told law news website Above The Law the issue was resolved quickly.
"This was an unfortunate miscommunication," Wellington said. "We withdrew the request that she make adjustments to her headgear, and she wore her religious garments throughout the entire testing day. The miscommunication was corrected as soon as we were made aware of it."
Though Abdulrazzak was allowed to finish the bi-annually offered exam, she remained upset. Sharing the photo on social media, she wrote in the caption, "Trying hard to control how upset I am."

Agreed. She’ll either demand a retake or that her grade be adjusted upward because she was so upset, she couldn’t concentrate. RIGHT. /s off ... sorta

Terrific. A muslim lawyer and one that is of the offended class...... Our Country is SCREWED............
Her use of the term “stone age” is certainly ironic. I wonder if she will eventually have to clarify whose stone age she thinks she is living in?
Yeah, there's the tipoff.
A mistake was made (or maybe not), but it was quickly and correctly resolved and everything went on as planned. A normal person, not looking for attention / excuses wouldn't have even given it a 2nd mention.
Just wait until they demand to take the exam is a full burka.
And the Bar will cave.
Go into a male-dominated field, play by their rules (don't ask them to change the rules because you're a girl), and then beat them (or just keep even, that's fine too....) at their own game.
Quickest way to get respect, IMHO.
Quickest way to lose it is what this woman did. Most guys don't go 'Whaaaaaaaaaa!!! It's Not Faaaaaair!" when they don't get their way.
Those who do, are called "Democrats". ;-)
I meant, what to do with women who muck things up for those who don’t!
My decision was to get married and have ten children.
Block letters. She can’t read cursive.
Wearing head gear like that, how could they tell
she wasn’t wired and receiving answers?
A disservice to the others taking the test.
Exactly.
And I can’t tell you how many times they say “it’s not required by my religion”
“If she got approval, why did she not have it in writing? “
I haven’t read this article, but in another article on this story, she reportedly said that she asked for written documentation of the approval, and was told it was not necessary. If true, it’s not surprising she would show up without written proof, particularly since most state bar exams have very particular rules about what you can and cannot bring into the room - when I took the NY bar exam, it was made very clear that the ONLY piece of paper I could have with me was my admission ticket.
Thanks matt04.
Here’s her “professor of law” right here:

She's the one with the biggest mouth.
Oops.

“Trying hard to control how upset I am.”
As they say in the Russian Army “tough shiztsky.”
I sometimes teach a class here and there at the local college. There is a room there for the teachers examination. It is all glass, and you are under 2 cameras. Why? Because of blatant cheating in the past.
Guess what the number 1 cheat now is, and that faculty will refuse to address. You guessed it, Burkas.
They all admit it is a scam, but they dare not question anyone in a Burka.
Photo ID? Just make sure the eyes are the right color.
So your name is Shanaynay and you are wearing a burka? No problem. Maybe your name is Mary and you are wearing a burka? No problem.
Yep, yep, yep, yep, ITA (I totally agree).
Much wiser, and far more satisfying. Figure that when on their deathbed, no one ever wishes that they spent more time at the office.
If you dedicate your life to a company for 25-30 years, you might get a nice watch on retiring. If you're really, really important, you might get a small plaque on the wall with your name on it, or a meeting room named after you ... that 5 years later, some wonk will look at and say "Tax......Chik.....(intentional misspell)....Wonder who she was??? Meh, let's go out for lunch."
My kids just came in to visit me at work. Wish that I could've gone home with them.
