KENOSHA, Wis. —WISN 12 News investigates an operation raising questions about the use of government resources and the state policy that meant a death sentence for a fawn.
"It was like a SWAT team," shelter employee Ray Schulze said.
Two weeks ago, Schulze was working in the barn at the Society of St. Francis on the Kenosha-Illinois border when a swarm of squad cars arrived and officers unloaded with a search warrant.
"(There were) nine DNR agents and four deputy sheriffs, and they were all armed to the teeth," Schulze said.
The focus of their search was a baby fawn brought there by an Illinois family worried she had been abandoned by her mother.
"When it made a little noise, it sounded like it was laughing," Schulze said.
Schulze videotaped the fawn they named Giggles during the two weeks she was there. The Department of Natural Resources began investigating after two anonymous calls reporting a baby deer at the no-kill shelter.
The warden drafted an affidavit for the search warrant, complete with aerial photos in which he described getting himself into a position where he was able to see the fawn going in and out of the barn.
Agents told staff they came to seize the deer because Wisconsin law forbids the possession of wildlife.
"I said the deer is scheduled to go to the wildlife reserve the next day," Schulze said.

“Anonymous caller/witness” and “tip from a confidential informant” are both code words for lies they make up to go on their fishing expeditions to get a charge on anotherwise innocent party. Usually a party that they don’t like or jealouse of.

Let me get this straight....they arrived en masse, sedated the baby deer, and then took it someplace else, and killed it.
Wondering how much cheaper, and humane it would have been to blood test the little deer first to see if it had any of the nasties they were concerned about.
Seems in our currently leftist dominated bureaucracies the tendency is to swarm it, kill it, and then excuse it after blaming someone else. I notice one of the most important factors in being a Leftist is one must be a major coward.
The reasoning behind not telling the shelter they were coming is an absolute ridiculous joke. Huge difference between the evil of drug dealing, and the humanity, and love of innocent creatures.
My GOD look at the resources these disgusting people used to prepare, and raid that shelter with the intent to kill that baby deer. I say it was a training exersize, and everyone other than government was collateral damage one way, or another. It’s the Leftist way. No respect for other life, or liberty, just for themselves.

The State Agency should be closed. Clearly, local dog-catchers would do a better job of managing animals.
And all those macho “swatters” should be re-assigned to un-armed, un-armored foot patrol duties in high-crime areas.
Call for the demilitarization of government bureaucracies.
When all you have is a hammer, every problem, even ones that can be addressed with a polite phone call, looks like a nail that needs to be pounded.

So serving a warrant for an errant deer at a shelter is equivalent to doing a drug bust. Excellent logic.
What sort of scum makes an anonymous call to report a rescued fawn, knowing the State’s only solution is death?
I hope the callers and the death squad are proud. May they reap what they sow.
Governor Scott Walker must step up, take responsibility, and stop State-sponsored cruelty, and the gross waste of public resources used to carry it out.
