CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) An injured veteran of the war in Afghanistan who was told to take down the American flag she has flying from the balcony of her apartment is now being told it can stay.
Jen Elliot was shocked when she found a notice from her property management company on her front door last week asking her to remove the flag from her balcony, ..."

Sorry, but I happen to believe that the person/company that OWNS the property should have the final say in what is and isn’t allowed. Don’t agree with the rules of the owner of the property? go buy your own place.
But the lease she signed stipulated that a correctly flown American flag was permitted.
Actually, she has a type of ownership. It’s called a leasehold. The landlord has the title. The bank probably has a lien and the government can tax it. So who owns it?
I am on the fence with this. I understand your point.
However, how offensive is an American flag?
There must be common sense somewhere.
Then I have no problem with it, the lease is negotiated between the owner and the renter, if that’s the case this isn’t really a news story at all.
Michael Newdow owns the place?
Reasonable use...is I think included in the price of a rental.
What that might constitute would have at one time been a matter of what we used to call “common sense”.
Pretty simple-minded way of looking at things, I’d say. One size fits all usually doesn’t fit any.
And the property owner’s property is within the US
If she doesn’t like that she can go to Costa Rica and tell people on her property not to fly the US flag.
Till then, if she enjoys the benefits of living here she can realize her owned property is inside of a bigger entity
And so can you
I put a sticker flag in my apartment front window....on my car, wear a pin on my lapel.....
There must be common sense somewhere.
The form of thought formerly referred to as “common sense” is in exceedingly rare supply or use...these days.
Amen to that. That’s why my brother and in-law bought their own place and escaped’ a Gestapo-style condo complex.
Seems she had a bunch of hanging junk and the flag was NOT hung properly.
By the looks of the flag in the article it was not what some might consider Out Of Scale or dangerously mounted
A 20 by 40 foot Flag might be out of place in such environs.
Making decisions based on what was formerly referred to as common sense is strikingly rare in these post modern times.
I agree. Our constitutonal freedoms only protect us from federal laws, and to a lesser extent state and local laws.
I'm glad that this situation turned out well for the vet. But potential problems with displaying the flag should be a question that prospective renters ask a landlord before actually renting from that landlord imo.
She had the flag hung exactly as the leased specified.
Saw her on local news last night. Couldn’t but help notice her large tattoos.
If you are offended by the flag maybe it is you that should leave the country. Do you think that a land owner can make his tenants use drugs also? Do you think that the government should not fly flags on government property? I am 100% disabled and have 2 Purple Hearts, Two Army Commendation medals with V device and 5 unit citations along with other decorations. I will fly my flag which is my right even if it is on your property or Government property or even the moon if I got there because I have earned the right!!!!!!!!!!!!
What has not been taken into consideration is now all the rainbow flags can be flown.
