Gun sales are dropping. So what?

That gun sales have dropped can be construed as a moral victory of sorts for the left-wing, liberal gun opponents. Also, a win for the government for implementing policies that have preventing the sales of guns. Reflexively, reading the headline had me perceive it as bad news,(for gun owners, gun lobby, the government interfering successfully with my inalienable Constitutional right to bear arms). But the fact is, it makes no difference in what the Constitution, the Second Amendment allows, says as far as purchasing, owning guns are concerned, a drop in gun sales does nothing, changes nothing.

The article itself says that gun sales are dropping in relative terms, after a huge spike in gun sales, that gives an overall false perception of what is happening.

Gun sales are dropping because we are now storing up on ammo!

Or maybe, the folks that want/wanted them, have already bought them

And now the concentration is on ammo, which is still hard as hell to get at a decent price.

And maybe, the panic is over. Ramp up the gun control stuff again and see what happens.

Gun sales are dropping because unemployed people can barely afford food and housing, let alone protection!

The sales have stopped because everyone who needs/wants gun has enough guns in their arsenal. If I have enough guns to protect myself, why would I need extra expenses? The marginal utility of a gun purchase is almost non-existent once we have enough guns!

What you cannot enough have is the ammo!

This isn't tied directly to sales; Kentucky, for example, requires a new check at the renewal of a gun permit

I don't know what that means. I don't need a permit to own a gun in KY. Thus I have no need to renew said permit which doesn't exist.

On the other hand the drop could indicate that all those who want guns have in fact purchased them. I own all the guns I want and am not in the market for more. (I would like an automatic weapon for when law and order breaks down but cannot legally buy one.) Secondly, a good NEW gun can be expensive and the economy is bad with more out of work than the statistics indicate.

It's called market saturation.

You only need so many ------ and ------ and -----------.

Yeah, they've "dropped" to 1.3 million a month. That's as high or higher than the 2006, 2007, and 2008 peaks.

To put that in perspective, two months of that "valley" and we'd have a shiny new gun for every member of the active duty Chinese Red Army. Add three months to that and we'd pick up their reservists and paramilitaries, too.

Which reminds me, I haven't bought a new gun in months...

If I had to guess, it would be that anyone who wants to own a gun legally already has one. The rest are being sold on the streets from the Fast and Furious cache and are illegal.

It appears the panic buying has finally stopped or at least slowed.

I have noticed that ARs are now available at several sources and at reasonable prices.

Ammo continues to be hard to find.
