So what are we to make of this astonishingly low attendance after non-stop coverage on cable news and elsewhere, as if this trial were the only serious issue confronting our country?
Could it be that the citizenry, including African-Americans, supposedly so greatly injured, have seen through the media hype (what I earlier called media pornography) and themselves realize this case is simply an accidental, anomalous one-off and not that big of a deal?
I certainly hope so, because what we have been going through is a form of national nervous breakdown, taking us rapidly backwards on race relations, something that has improved consistently in our country over the last fifty years.
What we do not need now is a “national conversation on race.” That’s like taking a scab that’s slowly healing and, just when it’s about to whither away, scratching it as hard as possible until the wound comes back.
We have strong civil rights laws. We have an even stronger national consensus against racism. Racist behavior is a huge social taboo, as it should be.
Now we should just leave it alone— let the scab heal. Morgan Freeman said this best in a famous interview with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes back in 2006. (Unfortunately, the great actor rescinded this later. But I prefer to believe in this more sophisticated, calmer Morgan.)

Good post. Time will tell but it may be that in the end the angry left and race crowd will realize that this is not the hill that they want to die on and lay in wait for the next cause célèbre/bête noire.
We’ve also learned that Twitter is basically the virtualization of the “mob”. Hamilton, Madison and Jay who feared the “mob” above all else (I would say based on my reading of the Federalist Papers) would have seen in today’s Twitter EXACTLY what they despised so much.
Kind of amusing, really. Fat Al showed off his thousand-dollar suit and his two new squeezes in solidarity, we presume, with the impoverished working classes, some of the Occupy brats found out that taking over someone else’s righteous outrage parade is as dangerous as encroaching on a gang’s territory and not at all dissimilar, the usual coterie of bed-wetting liberal talking heads took yet another opportunity to remind us of their moral superiority, Barack Hussein demonstrated that he is still no brighter than a 20-year-old Community Agitator, and the Beltway Establishment reaffirmed their commitment to groupthink and complete moral and intellectual cowardice - are you reading this, Mr. Brooks? Apart from that, sort of a dull affair.
Too many of the white guilt crowd showed up.
The black speakers couldn’t stir the crowd without fear of having the blacks turn on the white guilters in the crowd, so all the protest were boring to the blacks that were looking for a reason to start trouble and have fun.
I agree that more and more people were becoming aware of Martin’s full background. Which I why I think that after making some noise the Dems/Libs are going to let it all fade away. They’ve reached the limit on how much they can continue to milk Martin, have reached the point of diminishing returns and are probably very grateful that the pending birth of a white aristocratic baby on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean will allow them an easy exit from the matter.

I think the recap called The Lynching by Bill Whittle pretty much summed up this event perfectly. The fact, yes, fact that Trayvon's autopsy showed liver damage from doing "Lean" is something that really should have been pointed out. That one of the side effects of doing "Lean" is paranoia, should have also been known by the public.
The jury heard these facts, and they produced a correct verdict. This was a textbook case, really, textbook case of self-defense.

It’s really funny to watch the white guilt crowd along with the black protesters. The white ones have their heads on a swivel and are so high on fight or flight adrenaline they can’t think. They are swimming with predators.
