No, it’d be changed to the “shoot-out” game and we can’t have that, can we?
Hey, a good idea is a good idea... it does sound rather apocalyptic doesn’t it. Anyhow once the ferals find out there are people who resist when attacked (for heaven’s sake, even Jesus said take a fighting sword and yes that meant a literal one), they will slink away and find some other mischief.
“All you have shared is great, but, how about us older less limber folks who use canes and such to stay mobil. I am always ready to listen and learn. Thanks for any advice in advance.”
If legal in your State, a sword cane would be an option depending on how mobile you are.
I need to use a cane at times when my Sciatica flares up, but sword canes are illegal here in Kalifornia, so I carry a 4” folding knife that I can quickly deploy via inertia opening or with the thumb stud.
If I end up on the ground, that knife is going to be used on the assailants plant foot and they will be hopping around and hootin’ and hollerin’ like they are doing a rain dance.
I also have the knife on a lanyard that goes around my wrist, and if I see trouble coming I discreetly put the paracord lanyard around my wrist and palm the knife.
I can deploy the blade instantly and I also practice.
I also keep my head on a swivel and my ears open.
If you are walking and a group of thugs are heading your way but haven’t seen you yet but they are loudly talking and laughing and suddenly get quiet, it means they have spotted you and are now talking amongst themselves and contemplating taking action against you.
Bottom line is to carry a weapon, keep your eyes and ears open, and be prepared to defend yourself and visualize what you would do if attacked.
Most assaults start and end in less than 8 seconds.
And if you choose to carry a weapon, don’t hesitate to use it. Simply brandishing a weapon usually isn’t enough. You have to be prepared to use it and to use it ASAP and without mercy.
In case you didn't notice, the victim was probably Jewish, although the black perp was probably unaware of that. Nonetheless, the crime may well have been racially motivated, especially with all the unrest being fomented in black communities across the country in the wake of the Zimmerman verdict.
BTW, the St. Louis suburb in which the attack occurred, Jennings, MO, has a 90% black population (and a violent crime rate about three times the national average), so, unless the perp goes on to commit similar crimes, the police are probably correct when they say that chances of apprehending him are small. Unfortunately, there won't be any protest coming from Foxman's Anti-Defamation League.
Sword canes are indeed illegal here in CA. I too reside in CA. Thanks for the tip about the knife. Mr C4E gifted me one on a chain. Sentimental guy that he is. I think its time to start carrying it in my tote. Thanks again for all your good ideas.
You’re welcome. Stay safe and good luck.
The savage scum could use a taste of their own medicine. Such a thing would be an efficacious teaching device. Our feckless leader could always call it a “teachable moment”..
We were ahead of the curve on this one...
