Rand Paul: Ive got Mike Enzis back vs. Liz Cheney
By ALEXANDER BURNS | 7/11/13 11:44 AM EDT
If Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi ends up facing a primary challenge from Liz Cheney, he might be able to count on some help from one of his highest-profile conservative colleagues. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul told POLITICO Thursday that he considers Enzi a good conservative, and said he wasnt familiar with Cheneys interest in running against the incumbent Republican. I dont know much about her or her politics, really, Paul said. I am a friend of Sen. Enzi and while we arent exactly the same, I consider him a good conservative. Liz would be a queer-enabler. Enzi is a doormat.
Is there not a more credible challenger?
Other than guilt by association, can you come up with anything else that would disqualify her?
She certainly is qualified to run under the U.S. Constitution. Whether she’s the best choice for Wyoming voters is another matter entirely
Candidate A (Enzi) is proven to be 100% rock solid on social issues like his conservative constituents, has a proven 93% conservative rating on all other issues, has been living in Wyoming his whole life, and knows its people and their culture like the back of his hand.
Candidate B (Cheney) joined the left in applauding homos taking over the military, has lived in Virgina for years and didn’t come anywhere near Wyoming for decades until she bought property there a few months ago, and has never been elected to any office in her life, but wants to be given the highest legislative office on the ballot because of her family name.
It seems clear to me which of the above will do a better representing Wyoming values.
I will chalk the endorsement up to no other alternative. Unfortunately I don’t think anyone will run against Mitch.
During the primary McConnell was the second greatest obstacle for Paul to overcome.
When it comes down to holding your nose and endorsing McConnell over the only competition he’s likely to see, his democratic opponent, I guess I’m one of McConnell’s top supporters too.
Huh? Nowhere in the post did I refer to Rand Paul as "the stalwart conservative". You are 100% correct he is a hardcover Libertarian like his daddy. What I said was that Rand Paul is anti-Washington establishment.Sorry, but judging by Rand Paul's actions of late, I think even that opinion is little more than wishful thinking:
The woman is a good conseractive voice.
Conservative on what issues? What’s her position on the Obama immigration bill? What’s her position on pro-life? Do you know? I don’t.
If she has not articulated an Anti-Gay Agenda position including an absolute anti Gay Marriage stance, she is not conservative.
Wyoming cannot do better than these two?
i give Liz Cheney the big NO from 2 time zones away.
“I prefer politicians are term limited, but NOT at the expense of replacing them with someone who will be worse.”
I guess, politically speaking, each of us has to determine the “who will be worse/better” equation. My observation was general in that turnover is a desirable feature in elected office. But as you say, not at the expense of ideology ( so long as the person actually effects the legislative process and isn’t there for his own personal interests or gain). The corollary is “where are all the new faces?”
And the compelling need to not see a seat turn over to the RATs.
Well given all the love Rand Paul gets around here I’m glad he’s on the right page on this one.
Liz Cheney is easier on the eyes than Enzi, I’m not convinced she’s superior in any other way.
Enzi is wrong on Internet sales tax, way wrong, but balanced that against their stance on faggotry and the rest of the Cheney family history of RINOtude and I’m forced to side with Enzi.
If Enzi retires I hope another candidate get in the race to oppose Cheney.
Perhaps Rand does not want to risk competition from a fellow conservative.
Seems Paul choosing Enzi is an easy choice cuz he is so opposed to the aggressive foreign policy interventionism of the Cheney world. Paul is clearly anti-neoCon.
Based on your list, Rand Paul is a GOPe traitor to the conservative cause. Is he not?
And this article was about Rand Paul supporting Enzi.
The number of gays in the US is about 2%.
The number of gays who live in states which allow gay marriage and marry is much less.
The number of gays who are in the fed gov't, married in a gay state and move to a non-gay state is much less again.
The front on gay marriage is still at the state level. IL just rejected gay marriage and that is because 20 black legislators blocked it despite pressure from the WH. I don't see gay marriage getting much more traction at the state level.
Homosexual marriage will be recognized by all states, that means that you go next door and get married and then you are married everywhere.
The federal government has already accepted gay marriage for the military and federal employment and immigration.
There will not be a situation of families being trapped into living in a single state.
Liz Cheney hadn’t lived in Wyoming since junior-high school up until a couple months ago.
Don't think so.
They can't even get gay marriage passed in IL now (20 black legislators blocked it).
The number of states allowing it has slowed to a crawl and maybe even a full stop.
I think they're going to jump the shark soon with some kind of high-profile headline scandal. I think they're power may have peaked altho the fat lady hasn't sung quite yet.
