STATEMENT BY REV. AL SHARPTON ON GEORGE ZIMMERMAN BEING ACQUITTED OF ALL CHARGES IN THE SHOOTING OF TRAYVON MARTIN

Saturday, July 13, 2013 (New York, NY) “The acquittal of George Zimmerman is a slap in the face to the American people but it is only the first round in the pursuit of justice. We intend to ask the Department of Justice to move forward as they did in the Rodney King case and we will closely monitor the civil case against Mr. Zimmerman. I will convene an emergency call with preachers tonight to discuss next steps and I intend to head to Florida in the next few days."

Federal Hate Crime legislation does not require the defendant to be a governmental representative.

True, but they're talking about Civil Rights violations, not a hate crime.

There's no way they're going to try for a hate crime prosecution. There's NO evidence that Zimmerman acted with any racial animosity. And there'd be ample witnesses that the defense would call to attest to Zimmerman's involvement in black youth mentorship, outreach to black churches and other activities he was engaging in. They'd end up looking even more foolish than they do right now.

Not only that, but it becomes a double-edged sword. It's pretty well documented that where there's a race difference between attacker and victim, the attacker is usually (overwhelmingly so) black or hispanic. A hate crimes prosecution against Zimmerman would really lower the bar to what is prosecutable. Which would result in a disproportionate number of hate-crimes charges being leveled against blacks and hispanics.

O’Mara mentioned suits tonight the first is for monetary compensation from the State. For the extra expenses caused by the State withholding evidence.
He also said he would be filing additional suits aginst others. He did not name whom. I think for starters NBC, ABC and CNN. I would pay big dollars to see him throw a F—ing suit at Nancy Graceless, the CEO of Citizens United Network of Twits!

Since college (about 35 years) I have been ranting that LBJ's great society seems to have been orchestrated by the KKK, due to the the nature of dependency and loss of opportunity it has caused black society as a whole. This is regardless of it's stated objectives which are exactly 180 degrees from what it has accomplished.
