I pray for a fair and just verdict. My support and thoughts go out to the Zimmerman family and the defense team as we wait.

Victor Cruz of the NY also posted a questionable statement.

These guys, who are very good player, need to realize we the fans support them for their athletic ability but can turn them , and their team off when they post statements like this.

Did not get the teams name but an NFL player twitted (I guess that is the word) that Zimmerman will not last a year before the Hood takes care of him.

I heard fireworks going off at a town not far from here after the verdict as well.

There is a great deal of pent-up anger among everyone, and it has all been ginned
up by the outrageous behavior and unconstitutional policies of our dear occupant,
the most destructive and divisive “get in their face” _res_dent under which our
country has ever suffered.

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz predicted that Zimmerman would be killed as people in the hood got revenge: He deleted that tweet.

Rush was not against Zim, he was just sick of the wall to wall coverage.

Rush was sick of the coverage of someone else (other than himself).

He didn't understand how important this trial was to Constitutional America. Because we won...we now have hope. Real hope!

Thanks. As it turns out, I have to repost without the USA Today excerpt. No USA Today excerpts allowed on FR.

Zimmerman found not guilty

My own feeling is this. I have followed the trial closely...each day. The Jury clearly looked at the evidence, which was overwhelming for the defense and Zimmerman.

Zimmerman's nose was broken and his face was bruised and bloodied after the confrontation. He had cuts and bruises on the back of his head. He had grass stains on the back of his shirt and pants. Treyvon had no injuries from the fight, except the gunshot wound. There were scrapes on his knuckles. And he had grass stains on his knees. All of this was supported by the forensic evidence and was not challenged.

It is clear who was delivering a beating, and who was receiving it. An eye witness indicated Treyvon was on top of Zimmerman and hitting him. Clearly, the one who was screaming histerically, and terrified for help, was the one being beaten, not the one on top doing the beating.

In almost all cases, the prosecution witnesses, under cross examination, gave testimony that ended up supporting Zimmerman's story.

It is tragic that things happened like they did. But neither person had broken any laws, or committed any crime, and could have walked away from this up until the time one of them decided to sucker punch the other in the face, break his nose and knock him down. Even then Treyvon could have walked away and had very little long term personal consequence. But when he began beating Zimmerman on the ground as he did, he took a path that led to his death. Zimmerman finally shot, and the forensic evidence showed that Treyvon was shot at close range, with the bullet traveling upward through his body (and his heart) while Zimmerman was on the ground.

There simply was not evidence of any hate crimes. There was simply no evidence of murder or negligence. The jury decided that Zimmerman was defending himself.

We know now that Zimmerman, an Hispanic male, mentored young black kids in his spare time. No racist there at all.

No, it is tragic that a 17 year old young man was killed. He was not a "little" kid. He was 6' 2" tall, 170 lbs, and was quite muscular and fit as a high school football player. Zimmerman was 5'9", also weighed around 170 lbs, but was not in good shape and over weight. And Treyvon was not angelic...far from it. His facebook page and tweets make that clear enough, as does his own record...all of which the jury could not hear...and in the end, did not need to.

Would Zimmerman have died that night? We will never know. But he clearly thought he was in great danger, and he was definitely being beat up. So he finally pulled his gun and shot in self defense.

I pray the country can move on from this. This case was trumped up by politicians, the Media, and those seeking a racial cause. The local police had already pretty much determined what this jury found and that is why Zimmerman was released after being taken to the police station that night. These types of things happen fairly often in this nation of 350 million.

For example, shortly before this event, a black man, who was being stalked by 4-5 white thugs, was at home one night when these thugs came to his house and began calling him names, and throwing rocks at his home from his drive way. He was safe in his home. It was secure and he was armed. He did not have to go out. But they were on his property and he decided to go out and confront them. There was an argument. One of the young men, about 19 years old, charged the man yelling that he was going to hurt him. The man shot...and the 19 year old died.

That man was not tried. He was not arrested for murder or manslaughter. Everyone knew these kids were on his property and up to no good. He could have stayed inside, but he decided to confront the evil on his property and when attacked, he defended himself. I have no problem with it...and believe more Americans should send such messages to criminals when they are threatened. 911 takes on average 9 minutes for anyone to get there. Usually by that time, it is over.

That above case happened in Florida by the way...and there was no outcry, no demands to punish that man for killing the much younger man. It was clearly self defense...as was this case with Zimmerman.

I didn’t have much of a choice this time. One of the mods pinged me and “suggested” that I do a ZOT announcement. The mods’ wish is my command.

But you’re most welcome.

"ruhroh !"
"girl fight ??"

ruhroh, no fight, just trying to learn and understand the confusing laws.

Thank the Lord and the Jury, Zimmerman was found NOT GUILTY.

RummyChick, I did watch the exchange when the child abuse sentencing was tried to be thrown in, but somehow I missed the 10-20 law or just didn't realize the implication. I will try to find a video on that part and listen again.

The prosecution had no case. All they had was smoke and mirrors. Their problem was not that they were stupid or inept, their problem was that they were and are corrupt.

Obviously, but if the a prosecutor had focused the state's case on (1) Trayvon Martin was killed by a single bullet fired by Kel-tec #XX-XXX, (2) said piston was owned by GZ, and (3) said pistol was found in his possession shortly after shooting; and if the prosecutor had not asked any questions that would elicit testimony about GZ's original statements, it would seem like it would have been much harder for GZ to win his case without taking the stand, especially given a judge who seemed inclined to interpret rules of evidence in a manner overtly hostile to the defense. I would think the prosecutor should have been able to establish a substantial lead going into "half-time"; the defense could of course have introduced evidence to support self-defense once it got a chance to present its case, but would have to do so in front of a judge who interpreted rules of evidence in a manner hostile to the defense.

On the latter point, I'm curious why the 7-Eleven video was not from what I understand admissible as evidence? It would have provided the best depiction of TM's physical size on the date of the attack, as well as an exemplar of his voice, and would seem relevant on both counts.

Obviously, but if the a prosecutor had…………………

There is NOTHING the prosecution could have done to secure an honest conviction. NOTHING. George Zimmerman was factually innocent. No honest legal strategy can overcome that fact.

Good reference.

Also many don’t know that Angela Corey charge a 12 year old as an adult.

So much for St. Skittles being called a kid at 17..

“Geraldo’s interview with a Cathy Makowski”

The story sounded fishy to me, too. What she wants is the ability for self defense taken away from those not able to defend themselves in a fist fight—or worse.

Watching high profile cases like this one, and the resulting opportunity to be on nationwide television, brings out all manner of kooks and drama queens, all with a debatable grievance, as well as the usual suspects, the regular talking heads who are legends in their own mind; Geraldo, In this case and, presumably the producers of Fox news.
Case in point :

Geraldo’s interview with a Cathy Makowski, who presented such a pathetic case for repealing “self-defense” laws. Her son was killed as a result. His intended victim refused to allow himself to be killed by a bigger aggressive man with anger issues. But I am getting ahead of myself. Something didn’t ring true, so I started digging. Here is the complete story:

McMurder
The story is 8 years old now.
The woman raised an obviously pampered, spoiled bully with no self control and a very short fuse. A self-centered tragedy waiting to happen.
They have run that interview 3 times today, that I know about. I wonder if anyone else was curious about the specific circumstances, and the whole story.
Geraldo certainly wasn’t too curious to challenge the woman.

Thanks for the post, and particulary for the link.

I expect this from Jerry Rivers, but am deeply disappointed in Judge Jeanine Shapiro.

I though she would know the facts before siding with this interview and acting like she was supporting repeal of this law.

Just deleted her show from my series recording list on Direct TV

Victor Cruz. Wide receiver for NY Giants...

I guess we need to tell him “ Shut up and Play “ borrowing from the “ Shut up and Sing” commentary made about celebrity singers commenting on current events/politics.

No, it is tragic that a 17 year old young man was killed.

It irks me that the defense conceded that TM "was" a good kid. I would have much rather the defense tell the jury that he "may have been, mostly, a good kid" [no need to mention that the 'mostly' comes from the fact that he might have been a good kid for more than 51% of his life, even if not at all for the last couple years], but that at the time of his death Trayvon Martin was doing a very bad thing. What is tragic is that the Tayvon Martin was killed, but rather that he decided to savagely beat George Zimmerman for over a minute. Once Trayvon Martin made that decision, there was no good possible outcome. Had George Zimmerman not gotten off a lucky shot, he would likely be dead.

I understand why MoM may not have wanted to speak negatively of TM's character, even to the extent that the prosecutor may have opened doors to do so [e.g. by suggesting that TM was some sort of great hero for actually purchasing candy rather than stealing it!?], since jurors might have disliked anyone who would speak negatively about the decedent's character. On the other hand, I don't think the jurors would have thought negatively about someone who said that TM may have been, mostly, an okay person, but even mostly-good people sometimes do bad things. Most people have some experience with that, and I see no reason to believe the jurors would not. If someone is an angel 99.99999% of the time and a savage 0.00001% of the time, and during that 0.00001% the savage is trying to inflict unjustifiable severe bodily harm on another person, it may be desirable to restrain the attacker without harm, but that doesn't mean it will be possible. The injuries sustained by George Zimmerman show that regardless of how Trayvon Martin had lived the previous 99.99998% of his life, during the 0.00002% of his life that he was beating George Zimmerman, he was a savage that needed to be stopped by any means necessary.
