Currently just Tweets and locals talking about this, nothing on news sites yet. Lots of stuff in the Twitter feed, including links to uploaded videos of the smoking mess.

I’ll wait for the experts to come forth with the facts!!! And....they are the Boeing Aircraft Company and the Asiana flight crew, period.

Please get real.
It's embarrassing.

300 passengers did not notice an explosion just before hitting the end rip-rap protection at the start of the runway fill?

Cultural differences are often a contributing cause to airplane accidents. Having flown world-wide, I can recount many examples of the same. English is the International language for aviation. This does not mean that you can converse with a Brazilian controller, he only knows “controller English”, clearances, altitudes headings etc. They are usually unable to tell you what the weather is at the airport in English. Same goes for France, Thailand, Japan, you get the idea.

No, I don't know.

After 30 years of Air Traffic Control experience, most as Tower Watch Supervisor in the USAF, this was a Pilot Error Crash.
The pilot came in too steep, with too much airspeed to bleed off, so he put it into a stall position to get rid of the airspeed.
But he stalled it out and got lucky that he belly landed it into the underrun, and the closed portion of the runway, before the landing threshold and leaving a portion of the tail in the bay.

It may have “collided” with what?

I don't know, but the emergency channel had some individual reporting that a 'target' had been dropped at the airport or in the water after the crash.

Not clear if 'target' was human or mechanical.

Most commercial pilots can get the weather through email messages on the flight data computer from their company,
and all are required to read ICAO METAR Reports.

By the sounds of it, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a bombshell report later stating the death toll now is 62.

Why does it have to be that complicated?

Sixty people decided they had enough excitement for one day, and "I'm outta here!"

Or in the general chaos they were simply hidden away somewhere in that huge airport having a drink or whatever. Presumably most had friends or relatives meeting their flight.

I’ve fished in that bay up against the SFO runway. The Halibut, Shark, Ray, and Striped Bass fishing can be excellent at the right time.

Putting that aside, God Bless the people that had to endure this accident. Prayers to you!

Thanks, but I wasn't involved with it.
I'm just telling you what I see in the data I read.

Are you playing with me? You must not be able to read and understand English either. My point is that you can’t converse with many controllers. The weather example was the one I chose. How about asking them how the wife and kids are? Is that better?

You’re unhinged, or drunk. Sober up so you’ll make sense. This banter is inappropriate on a thread regarding a plane disaster - let it go. I played on inter-department softball games in the city, and the female firefighters often bested the men and won games. I’m not kidding, some of these gals (Hayes-White included) can lift and carry men on ladders.

Knock it off with the ad hominum attacks. You, sir (I presume) have obviously been severely emasculated by the affirmative action culture and have not seen the steady decline, and deficits in departments over the last 40 years. Firemen of a previous and honorable "age" respectively would have never stood for this. A "straight, Catholic woman" if she was properly catechized would understand that there is a proper place for a woman role, and it's not doing a man's job, no matter how capable she may be of actually doing the job.

Thank God my father and grandfather never lived to see their respective fire departments succumb to what they have today. It's not the inadequacy of the woman (who evidently is doing a "standard" job), but what has become of the (physical) standards in the last 35+ years? Fact: They've been lowered to accommodate for affirmative action and to brainwash you "youngsters" into accepting it. Face it, NONE of this would even be a topic of conversation if it wasn't for affirmative action.

And thank God, in my local fire dept, it's still ran with the large majority of MEN doing the job.

Fire away girly men. You're "free" to flame me now. I'm not arguing this point any longer because I've grown up in a firehouse and fully understand (and was taught from the get go) what it was "supposed to be." By unadulterated-by-affirmative-action fireMEN.

I’ve seen the Aft pressure bulkhead on the B777 while on a floor tour of the Boeing plant. It is made by Mitsubishi and it may have been “peeled back like a tin can” but I assure you that it was intact. It must have been torn from the fuselage structure that failed along with the Vertical Stabilizer.

I’m not firing away or flaming anyone. Just saying it’s inappropriate on a tragic thread like this to slander someone with no knowledge of the person.

I just had a conversation with a buddy that was on the tarmac checking all the debris, and he said it wasn’t pleasant seeing the body of a woman on the ground (one of the two who are confirmed dead). Also showed me close-up pics he took of the plane and debris, lots of personal effects strewn everywhere. First responders are trying to do their job, and a jerk is knocking one of them for her looks. Unbecoming, and not pertinent in this disaster.

You have zero idea what knowledge I have or don’t have of that person or who I know and work with or have worked with in SF. Enough with all of your lies. You have zero proof of anything you’ve said. Knock it off with the incessant ad hom attacks, as the other poster politely requested too. Now I’m done in arguing with someone not all there, that’s what I get and that is my fault. Proceed with your hatred, vitriol, and flat-out lies.

Not a pilot.

But did do around 20 landings at SFO in 2008 - most in 737s.

Always smooth and easy landings at SFO.

Comparing the flightaware data to AF flight that is also a 777 it look like you have called it.
