LOS ANGELES Sinai Temple is a Conservative Jewish congregation perched on a hill in Westwood, famous for its wealth, its sizable population of Persians, many of whom fled Iran after the fall of the shah, and a well-known and outspoken rabbi who has at times pushed his congregation on ideologically adventurous paths.
So it was that three weeks before the Supreme Court cleared the way for same-sex marriage in California, the rabbi, David Wolpe, announced in a letter to the synagogue that gay marriages would be performed in this 107-year-old congregation, as soon as the court ruling he anticipated was handed down.
Celebrating same-sex marriages is hardly a new stand for Conservative Jewish congregations. But the decision in this distinctive synagogue has set off a storm of protests in recent days, particularly from Persian Jews, reflecting not only the unusual makeup of the congregation but also the generational and cultural divisions among some Jews over how to respond to changing civil views of homosexuality.
To officiate a union that is expressly not for the same godly purpose of procreation and to call such a relationship sanctified is unacceptable to a sound mind, M. Michael Naim, an architect, said in an open letter to other Iranian members of the congregation. Homosexuality is explicitly condemned in Scripture and has been categorically and passionately rejected by all classical Jewish legal and ethical thinkers as a cardinal vice in the same category as incest, murder and idolatry.

It is indeed odd when most of the rest of the world looks sane compared to America.
America is a nation in steep decline. Nothing lasts forever. Congratulations to the Democrats.
It’s hilarious how patronizing and sanctimonious liberals can be toward the traditional morality of Asia and Africa.
You know, the poor, dumb Persians who can’t accept this...oh wait sorry my bad....who are “not yet ready” to accept this. We must simply be patient and try to bring those of childish, primitive intellect, these unsophisticated rubes from those Third World countries around.
Ping!
A rabbi or priest or minister who preaches “gay marriage” is attempting to go directly against God’s express wishes.
This is no longer Judaism or Christianity. This is paganism, and a type of paganism that is deliberately, intentionally offensive to God.
It does not become any more acceptable just because it is pronounced by a respected bishop or, as in this case, a rabbi at a big, prominent synagogue. Indeed, it is made all the worse an offense because there is the likelihood of even more people following this anti-Biblical “teaching.”
There are so many things a priest or rabbi or minister can preach about “gays” ... that we should try to love them, that everybody falls short (sins) in some ways or others, that we are a community that must try to support each other....etc.....but none of these things justifies preaching a direct, flagrant disobedience of express Biblical scripture.
Such rabbis or priests or ministers should be removed from any position of leadership or teaching of the faithful.
And this is in a “Conservative” (really liberal, for the most part) congregation to boot. Will there be an outreach to the Orthodox here, I wonder . . .
I liked the phrase used later in the article. A Persian man called same-sex marriage “a sodomy contract”.
The day a Homosexual marriage is performed in my Church is the last day I go there.
Let the Homo’s support the Church. See how that works out for them.
The problem is if a church refuses to perform the “sodomy contract” they will be vulnerable to a law suit. I’m sure several are already planed.
PING on Jewish issues. As a gentile, I’m an outsider, obviously, but it sounds like the people in this Jewish synagogue who oppose homosexual marriages deserve support.
Comments would be appreciated from those who are closer to the situation and know more details.
At least, that's what the Liberals would be claiming if the Third-Worlders were espousing something in diametrical opposition to cherished principles of Western Civilization, like when firefighters let schoolgirls die in a burning building because it would have been "unclean" touching them.

I actually asked our new preacher if he was a preacher of the Word, or a PC preacher, he said mostly he preaches the Word as written, and walks a fine line when needed on some of it. His first sermon went down fine with me. I’m old school Assembly of God in a liberal Methodist church.

Yep, and He has been known to severely punish nations that embrace it.
We Christians, collectively the “royal priesthood” in Christ (1 Pet 2:5-9) need to repent of our own wrongdoing, and “stand in the gap” (Ez. 22:30) and PRAY for our country and our countrymen, that the LORD stay his hand and “heal our land”. (2 Chr. 7:14).
The way we’re going, we’re headed for horrible times unless we Christians foster a revival of Christianity in this country. It’s revival, or revolution, or slavery. I don’t see another way.
...unless Jesus returns! That works too. :-)
The revolt seems to be as much a Persian as a Jewish thing, but I note it's the "conservative" Jewish Rabbi here who's all for the homo marriage thing.
Nothing new about the cafeteria religious, feeding their souls from the buffet table of ideals to live by.
One either believes the word of God is inviolable and absolute or they throw in their lot with the great deceiver.
‘’rabbi’’ Wolpe has made his decision.
Time to show the rabbi the door
