The Egyptian army has set a deadline of 4 p.m. Cairo time for the Muslim Brotherhood government of President Morsi to compromise with the people of Egypt (by stepping down.) Morsi refuses. 18 people were killed and 200 were wounded in clashes at Cairo University last night.
A Washington Post report from Cairo on dueling statements from Morsi and the army:
Waving his hands and shaking his fists in a 45-minute speech on national television late Tuesday, Morsi swore that he was committed to the democratic process that brought him to power and said that any attempts to subvert the constitution were “unacceptable.”
The army, in turn, posted a message to its Facebook page saying: “We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.”
In his speech, Morsi acknowledged that he had made mistakes during his year in office as Egypt’s first democratically elected president. But he appealed to Egyptians to give him more time to deal with the country’s problems.

... what went on in Egypt was a travesty that impacted our nation. This administration supported a Islamic Terrorist organization and helped it come to power...ousting a long time ally who kept the peace with Israel and protected his Coptic Christian minority.Why should America be involved with the ME in the first place? You seem to be more of a war hawk incensed about lack of involvement by the US government meddling around the globe. America should worry about its own future with a documented track record of a failed recent past covering decades of publick squander and self-delusion.
That new regime was then directly involved with the attack on our consulate and death of Americas there. They also were allowing Coptic Christians to literally be crucified (physically, literally) in their streets, and stoking for war against our ally.The attacks on American consulates, such as Benghazi, are a result of America's meddling into foreign intrigue. It is a classick response of unwanted foreign meddling, particularly from a nation that is half-way around the world.
So you bet I spoke of that...and am glad to see the Egyptian people and their military turn that lot of scoundrels out and begin arresting them. They set a good example for us and removed a despot in the process.You are making assumptions which is not unusual for you.

As to Benghazi being the result of our unwanted meddling...I have already explained what the current administration is all about. Indeed, I believe they not onbly caused it, but were directly involved in it up to their elbows and more.

Does he care? He’s not about anything but covering his own buns and the agenda he moves forward...everything else is insignificant....
Putin’s wheeling and dealing ‘right now’ with Iran on trade and Nuclear...he’s intent on solidifying with Iran....as for Egypt...they will do their own thing independant of Russia.
Egypt may have another civil war....but the real issues will be the water rights of the Nile..and that will get very messy...many will die down the road from that.

I don’t think he’ll step over the line any more than he continues doing...he’s too busy paying off favors to those who put him in office before he leaves...so he’s going to push hard his agenda.
As said...the US Citizens are still healthy and fat...so little will be done about O. He’ll finish out his term and leave the mess where it lays.....how much yet there will be remains to be seen.
Problem is there’s no one in Washington representing the people now. And they know we won’t mount up...and when we march they simply wave back at us from their windows in Washington...so it’s no threat to them.

On another note...Fireworks will soon begin just two blocks from me...street has people hanging around below my deck....and parking lot nearby filling up to watch from this location. I am lucky...never need to leave my apartment..just sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy the show.

Fatah expresses hope that the ouster of Morsi will aid efforts to end divisions among the Palestinians.
Palestinian Authority leaders on Thursday expressed joy over the downfall of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi’s regime, with some calling on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to follow suit and topple the Hamas government.
Palestinian analysts predicted that the collapse of the Muslim Brotherhood regime in Egypt would undermine Hamas, which in the past year has been emboldened by Morsi’s rise to power.
PA President Mahmoud Abbas was one of the first Arab leaders to congratulate the Egyptians on the ouster of Morsi.
In a letter to acting President Adli Mansour, Abbas congratulated him on the appointment, expressing hope that he would fulfill the aspirations of the Egyptian people to “live in freedom, dignity and stability.”
Abbas praised the Egyptian army and its commanders for preserving the country’s security and preventing it from slipping toward the abyss.
Tayeb Abdel Rahim, a top aide to Abbas, saluted the Egyptian army for the “wonderful achievement.”
Referring to Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood, Abdel Rahim hailed the Egyptian army and people for refusing to be intimidated by those who “sow sedition, civil war and sectarianism.”
Jamal Nazzal, a senior Fatah representative, called on Palestinians to overthrow Hamas in the wake of the events in Egypt.
Fatah spokesman Ahmed Assaf expressed hope that the ouster of Morsi would aid efforts to end divisions among the Palestinians.
“We hope that the historic victory of the Egyptian people’s will would help our people get rid of the destructive division and restore national unity,” Assaf said in an indirect reference to Hamas’s control over the Gaza Strip.
Several other Fatah officials expressed hope that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip would wage a revolution against Hamas.
“Now it’s Gaza’s turn to get rid of the Muslim Brotherhood branch,” said one official. “The dark era of political Islam has ended. The era of hypocrisy and lies has ended and Gaza will soon witness its own revolution against Hamas.”
Abdel Rahim Jamous, a Fatahaffiliated political analyst, urged Hamas to seize the opportunity and “return to Palestinian national legitimacy before it’s too late.”
Addressing the Hamas leadership, Jamous said: “You have no future with the Muslim Brotherhood. They have failed even before they started. They are losers. Wake up before it’s too late.”
Palestinian reporters in the Gaza Strip said on Thursday that top Hamas officials seemed to be very worried by the ouster of Morsi.
Unlike the PA leadership, Hamas did not rush to congratulate the Egyptian army and opposition.
But Ahmed Youssef, a senior Hamas official, said his movement was worried not over the fall of Morsi’s regime, but over the possibility that events could lead to bloodshed in Egypt.
The “whole world is hoping to see stability in Egypt,” Youssef told the Ma’an news agency.
The crisis in Egypt had already resulted in a shortage of basic goods in the Gaza Strip because of the closure of the Rafah border crossing, he said.
Palestinians said that the Egyptian army had beefed up its presence along the border with the Gaza Strip in the past few days.
Egyptian troops on Thursday destroyed six smuggling tunnels under the border, they said.
The Egyptian authorities have also imposed severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinians through the Rafah terminal, they added.
There are unconfirmed reports that Cairo has also issued an order banning Hamas leaders and members from entering Egypt.
Ehab Ghissin, a spokesman for the Hamas government, condemned as “trivial” Fatah’s call for an Egyptian-style revolution in the Gaza Strip.
Ghissin said that Fatah’s calls were intended to cover-up the continued PA security crackdown against Hamas supporters in the West Bank.
