The Egyptian army has set a deadline of 4 p.m. Cairo time for the Muslim Brotherhood government of President Morsi to compromise with the people of Egypt (by stepping down.) Morsi refuses. 18 people were killed and 200 were wounded in clashes at Cairo University last night.
A Washington Post report from Cairo on dueling statements from Morsi and the army:
Waving his hands and shaking his fists in a 45-minute speech on national television late Tuesday, Morsi swore that he was committed to the democratic process that brought him to power and said that any attempts to subvert the constitution were unacceptable.
The army, in turn, posted a message to its Facebook page saying: We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.
In his speech, Morsi acknowledged that he had made mistakes during his year in office as Egypts first democratically elected president. But he appealed to Egyptians to give him more time to deal with the countrys problems.
Link to originial FR thread from Friday with many amazing photos.
I’m here. Praying for the Egyptian army to put a stake through the heart of the Muslim Brotherhood and their plans to resurrect the caliphate. Praying for peace for our Coptic bretheren.
Lets see, Morsi is the terrorist, is Obama the radical of the fool? Or both?
Conservatives must bring Hillary’s name into the discussion when analyzing Obie’s foreign policy failures.
I’m totally lost here. The people want Morsi out. Why? To replace with who? These people want an Islamic country like Iran...They are surely anti-USA.
Boy o boy...Talk about our status in the world under Bush...people spit at us. No one fears us or respects us...
The Copts should cross the border into Israel where they will be free to pray in their churches...
Forty-five minutes to go. i hope the Army knows where Morsi is.
Thanks, kristinn.

So you’re rooting for the Egyptian Army? OK, that’s cool as long as they maintain their sanity.
I am sure that Barry has told them not to topple Morsi. It would be against his personal, oops I mean, US interests...
Good morning y’all. Thanks for the new thread and ping, kristinn.
God be with those in Egypt that are seeking freedom from tyranny. Prayers up.
Replaced by a group of Egyptian Army generals.
They know on which side their bread is buttered...
My understanding is that the people’s desire for an MB islamist government has waned. I think there is an economic component as well vis a vis tourist dollars. Replaced by whom? I don’t know. But I suspect another Mubarak-like strongman.
Obama destroyed 40 years of foreign policy achievements we had with the Egyptians.
kristinn, are you going to lock the previous live thread?
Well according to their “leaked” roadmap the Army is talking about tossing out the entire leadership, disbanding the parliament and suspending the new consitution and scheduling presidential elections, so I think they’re serious.
Unless there is some sort of last-minute deal struck with less hardline islamist elements. But I’m just speculating.
You have nothing to worry about Ambassador Stevens...er...President Morsi.
Pray for America to Wake Up
Bout time for the army to go into action. Caww and Maggie have documented it all .... Day and night from the beginning on the initial thread Kristinn posted in the body of this thread
But it’s pretty obvious that the Egyptian military is coordinating with the Israeli military, so I don’t think they much give a damn what obama thinks about anything.
