Muslims don’t believe in insurance. That’s why they are exempted and the uS taxpayers will be picking up the whole tab for their hopitalizations. They don’t believe in “gambling” which they say insurance is.
Actually, I sort of agree with them on that one. Consider the case where you bet on a football game. You determine that you think one team will win and you wish to bet on them. The bookie will determine the likelihood of that team winning (i.e. his risk level in taking the bet) and adjust the payout accordingly. If you are right, you get paid. If not, the bookie keeps your money.
Now consider purchasing a life insurance policy. You are concerned that you might die early and leave your loved ones unprepared so you decide you wish to purchase a policy that pays you if you die. In essence you are betting on your own death, you "win" if you die. The insurer (the bookie in this case) checks his amortization tables and the results of your physical to determine his risk level and rather than adjusting the payout amount he adjusts the amount you have to pay to get that amount. That is, he sets the amount of the bet instead of the payoff. It amounts to the same thing though, he's taking a bet and setting the odds.
All that said, this government has basically told Christians to jump off a cliff if they have a problem with public funding of things like embryonic stem cell research, abortion, and contraceptives. Why should Muslims be any different? Oh wait, they will riot and kill people. Never mind, I get it.
