That’s different. They didn’t go to jail for lying.

I don't know about Scooter, but Martha did go to jail for lying, formally "obstructing justice."

In that case, I stand corrected. Then again, it may have been like the cop who pulled me over for speeding, but when I couldn’t find my license, it gave him an excuse to just cite me for a non-moving violation of driving without my license.

But yeah, I forgot about the all-encompassing “obstructing justice” charge. I hear that you can be accused of that for talking back to the cop. ;-)
